Does Joseph Laryea deserve a shot at Ricky Burns after his showing last night? The split decision was a bit of a laugh, but he came and was game enough to win. Good fighter. Any thought?

Laryea fought very good last night although Ricky would like to be the 1st Scottish fighter to unify the title and with a great promoter in Frank Warren behind him why not, huge fight in Scotland sells out anywhere

Burns ought to be looking at fighting the best fighters in the division.

Last night was acceptable with it being a first defence, and the opponent was better than I expected.

But no patsies - if you want to call yourself a world champion you've got to fight the best opponents available.

Bearing in mind Burns already has a win over one of the top 5 I'd expect nothing less than that next time around.

Ricky Burns can and will unify the Division...:yep

Topping a massive FW promotion in a football stadium in Scotland would be fantastic for Team Burns, Scottish and British Boxing...:deal

It is an old saying but Ricky will fight out his skin the better the opponent.

Laryea should be Liam Walshs first defence for his CW belt, not a challenger for Burns title.

How easily does Ricky make the weight?

130 is a pretty boring division...... there aren't any fights out there that grab you in all honesty......

It's not as if he relies on his strength either, a move up to lightweight will allow him the chance of landing some much bigger and better fights.

do u think burns would have a live chance in a fairly hot division, i fink if he did move up would warren be tempted to bring mr katsidis over or is that a lesson truly learned.

I really enjoyed the fight and the event last night. Laryea was the surprise of the night, you could see from the first couple of jabs that he was well in the fight. Burns is a credit to Scotland, great to see him fighting a few months after winning the title. Your first defence is never going to be as easy to get up for as the world title itself. Eversen looked awkward and came to win, we should not be upset that burns did not stop him, it's still a good win.

FW should look at getting Mzonke Fana next, a big fight and a big unification purse for Burns. He should be able to get up for this one and perhaps they could build in a rematch clause should the worst happen.

I wouldn't think Laryea deserves a shot at Burns just for that win last night, mainly because I never believed that Appleby deserved a shot despite all the talk of giving him one.

Billy, I hear ricky is tight at the weight and heard that his next fight could be the last at the weight...? hes a very tall SFW, how long d'you reckon he'll be there for?

Greg, you can bet your ass that appleby would've got a shot, deserved or not. many say burns never deserved a shot(this argument is now irrelevant due to rickys performance against martinez). Alex Morrison on friday said that burns-appleby was the next fight, in spring next year. obviously not now...
