I can only imagine what it must be/must have been like to actually know 'The Toy Bulldog". I loved his book but read it so very long ago, I can't seem to recall if it Kearns or Rickard who was ready to give up on him (apparently due to his wild ways in between bouts) several times but always relented after Micky started looking sharp in training.

What a character he must have been!

Actually Corbett retired on November 11, 1895 and he even handed over his Championship belt to Peter Maher following Maher's knockout win over Steve O'Donnell at Maspeth, NY, But he returned shortly afterward.

8. Which former world champion fought a world Welterweight, Middleweight, Light heavyweight and world heavyweight champion in a two year period?

This one actually has several answers, depending on what you call Champions.

I can think of a few that fits this one. Ketchel & O'Brien fit, but it all depends on what your looking for.

 

2. How many light heavyweights have ever won a World Heavyweight championship fight?

Like it was stated before, it all depends on what your looking for. The way it is worded, "How many light heavyweights (Gene Tunney was a light heavyweight most of his career, so was Ezzard Charles, or do you just mean light heavyweight champions, or all light heavyweights?) have ever won a World Heavyweight championship fight?

Well, I have to drive back from AC tomorrow morning, and than go to a Ring 25 Christmas Party, so I will call it a night.

 

Henry, with the utmost respect, you must live in a house built by boxing books. Ive never encountered a guy before with a penchant for knowing everything hes ever been asked about fighters and fights! Its remarkable, it really is. How can you store so much info in one mans brain? Thank god you havent got maniacal tendencies of a Bond villan.

As hh has already noted, some of the questions are worded in such a way, that it's not perfectly clear, what exactly you're looking for - but I guess that's on purpose, in an effort to trick us.:good

Now a light heavyweight is of course someone who does not weigh more than 175 lbs... and if this is what you're looking for, then there have only been 2 light heavyweights, who have won a world heavyweight title fight: Bob Fitzsimmons and Tommy Burns.

 

Ketchel - Mike Twin Sullivan, Papke, O'Brien & Johnson, from Feb. 1907 to Oct. 1908.

O'Brien - Ryan, McCoy, Fitzsimmons & Burns from Jan. 1904 to Oct. 1904. Note: Burns didn't become Champion until later on and he also fought Dixie Kid in Nov. 1904.
