After watching SF last night it came to mind that certain guys are natural bad guys in the ring and simply like putting a hurt'n on people. Someone that comes to mind right off the bat is Dan Henderson. This guy other skills he can use to setup and stop a guy but he just like knocking people's heads off. Lawler is another one but I think he is a bit more one dimensional, nevertheless he likes banging in there. Any others you can think of.. who are the baddest guys in there and simply 'like' fighting.
No, but I'm sure you have another boring counter-comment on why Clay Guida is not a natural born fighter. Let's hear it then...
Lawler, Hendo, Wanderlei, and Liddell are all obvious ones. A young Matt Hughes really seemed to enjoy hurting people, although this seems to have changed with age, but that could be an erosion of skills more than anything. I think we might be reading a bit much into it, I think some fighters skill sets just make them seem cruel.
Well Guida clearly loves to fight, he just lacks the ability to finish fights, there is a difference.
I thought this was about NATURAL born fighters? Not guys who love to fight. Theres nothing natural about what Guida does. Nor does he look like a guy that was just born to fight.
There are some good ones mentioned, though I should have rephrased the 'like to fight' bit as many guys may enjoy MMA and the sport. Im talking about they like to not only fight, but they get a joy in seeing their opponent out cold and are simply cold killers. Clay Guida IMO does not fit this bill at all. He's comes across as a nice guy who likes to have fun in there, not kill people. How could I forgotten Wanderlei. I think Hendo fits the bill perfectly; for example, lets look at his flying gorilla punch he landed on Bisping well knowingly he had him out. He was pretty proud about it too. Lawler's flying punch last night reminded me of that though he had legitimate grounds since Lindland was actually turning around to protect himself, but the fact that he straightened out his legs afterwords was kind of a way of saying "you will be here for a while buddy, let me help you get comfortable". I don't think its the skillset alone that makes them appear cruel is how they use that skillset. For example, you got a guy like Rich Franklin, Joe Stevensen, GSP who have ko'd guys but they are not vicious nor is their demeanor. They don't apply their skills in a vicious way. If they get a k.o they are happy things went "according to plan". While you have guys like Hendo, Lawler, Wanderlei, even Liddell who seem happy to have smashed the opponents face in.
