Thats true Hearns at Welterweight was a destroyer and a freak, he did ruin Pipino...I was going to say Salvatore Sanchez because of Gomez and Lopez but Azuma rebounded from that loss, a brutal ending but Azuma was young enough

Good one, Baer Killed Frankie Campbell and most say his KO was the one that killed Earnie Shaff, he also gave Max Schmeling quite a beating. I can only imagine what kind of fighter Baer would be if he was dedicated

Reportedly, Max was indeed very dedicated until the Campbell tragedy. If Frankie had been all right afterward, then somebody else probably would have eventually wound up killed at his hands, which simply would have resulted into a loss of commitment at a later date.

It does need to be acknowledged that Max did at least continue after Campbell, as Carnera did after Schaaf, Charles after Baroudi, and Robinson after Doyle. However, Marciano always unequivocally asserted that he would have retired immediately if Vingo had died. Even long after Rocky's career was long over, with all the success he had, he said he would have forfeited it all in the event of Vingo's death.

Ali was a career killer. After George Foreman and Sonny Liston lost to Ali, it seemed that none of their brutal previous knockouts ever occured. You lose to Ali, and you're suddenly a nobody, no matter how invincible you seemed beforehand. Although, George Foreman managed to redeem himself in his second career. But if he stayed retired permanently after the Jimmy Young fight, he would have been written off as another Ali casualty. His legacy wouldn't be what it is now.

I think the Young fight affected Foreman worse than Ali.

Bud Taylor was another good career killer.

True. Even when beating him it can take out too much of you, see Frazier.

Its hard to tell, sometimes fighters go on losing streaks after a fighters beaten them and you don't know if it was because they were faded anyway or they actually got 'ruined'. Usually the fighters who get ruined are ones who always had defensive frailties while fighting at a 100mph, its not sustainable. You wouldn't think of Calzaghe as a fighter who could ruin his opponents but he ruined Lacy, I remember watching it and wish they'd stop it, the thing was Calzaghes lighter punches made it worse because the beating was so sustained

    Weaver.

Tate was ruined. Mercado's career sure didn't play out. Tillis was never the same. Dokes never looked as good either & the same could be said for Thomas & Williams. those 3 never got close to their previous form. Prospects like Pritchard and Duplooy saw their careers go down the drain

He was a guy that lost fights, but whenever he won the opponents sure didn't show their best anymore.

    Zarate.

Ali is a great mention, he hurt Foreman, Liston and Frazier, not a bad pedigree.

great thread! i'll throw lennox lewis into this list: tommy morrison, andrew golota, michael grant and razor ruddock were nothing much after they fought lewis. honourable mentions go to tua, holyfield and tyson who certainly did very little after lennox owned them in the ring
