What a compelling argument, **** it, as of this moment I'm standing down as president of the Lennox Lewis fan club.

Scorecards are important because the punch that opened the cut wasn't exactly a clean punch and had it been ruled an illegal punch (like open glove) then it would have been TD win for Vitali. Of course, with 2 belts on the line no ref was gonna make that kind of call. It was either TKO for Lewis or TD for Vitali. In fact, WBC left Vitali in mandatory spot which usually happens if the championship fight was a draw or no contest. The outcome of the fight was inconclusive. The rematch was in order and that part is what both sides usually agree on.

Except for the fact the ref made the right call, this is probably the most intelligent post I've read from you on this whole thread.

    Congratulations !!

That said, the scorecard amounts to a one round swing, so it wasn't like Vitali was dominating the fight and Lewis simply won by accident, in no way shape or form was that the picture. In fact at the end Lewis was basically walking through Vitali's shots just so he could land his own.

So on that basis he sure as hell didn't care about the score because he was planning on ending the fight on his own terms. And the way he dominated the 6th round suggests that this would have been the likely outcome except for the stoppage.

Others think he would have gassed out, but I personally think that given it may have been his last fight and he as zero history of running out of steam in a fight, I doubt this would have happened, and to me at least both fighters looked equally gassed but the main difference was Lewis was hitting Vitali with some hellacious shots and Vitali for the most part wasn't responding in kind. In fact in the last minute of the fight Vitali was drapped over Lewis and Lewis was desperating trying to get some space between them so he could finish Vitali off. Given this, it's hard to imagine this fight ever going to the scorecards at that point in time.
