It's definitely underrated, look ...0:08 [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwTE0mVGCMI[/ame] How good was ? very effective weapon in my opinion....
Stiff, short, and sharp. However, it's not a standalone punch. It's a "setup" or a filler. Tyson couldn't win a fight with it, but he can't set up a decent combo without it. There's one specific moment I remember about a Tyson jab. He was facing Ruddock (can't remember which match) but Razor was being difficult and Tyson got pissed and forced one in. He just lunged forward and dropped one right on the button. Ruddock's head snapped back, but we all know his durability.
It's definitely underrated but I do think that he utilized it much more when Rooney was still the trainer...jab, head-movement, jab, head movement, feint-overhand right-left hook to the head-right hook to the body-left hook to the body-right uppercut...rinse and repeat.
When he had Rooney, the Tyson's jab was at its most effective. Those combos were pure gold. I rememmber hearing Rooney yell from ringside the number of the combos. I feel that Tyson always needed Rooney, or at least some form of consistency that could keep him out of trouble.
Not really. Tyson threw a well timed jab that he used to get close to opponents and setup his combinations. It was a big part of him being pretty difficult to hit and get close to mobile boxers at his best. The lack of using his jab, head movement were all integral parts of his decline.
his jab was not that good it was average at best he really did not rely on his jab as he was more of a combination throwing brawler:think
Xpert post m8, IMO Tysons' jab was worse then average, cos it was so bloody short like a stumpy T-Rex arm. :thumbsup When Tinkerbell Tyson escaped from teh v.overated trainer Rooney - he got with a much BETTER trainer called Snowel, who teached Midget Mike that using teh jab, head-movement, body punches And combos was a USELESS WASTE of ENERGY!! He learned he was really just a Small-Slugger And wanted to be a midget version of Foreman. Haymakers are teh BEST punches, so why waste stamina on other stuff?? Even better, he learned Haymakers to teh head are teh BEST thing to do, cos they give you teh BEST chance of a KO, body punches are inefficent use of his Limited Asthma-Stamina. After teh 1st Bruno-fight, Tyson even said he was a much BETTER fighter then he was with Rooney! Tyson even said in a Sky Sports interview teh Douglas-fight was his BEST fight in his whole career, so it obvious he was at his PEAK - As a Pure Small-Slugger he didnt waste engery on anyting else, except 20 MASSIVE HAYMAKERS aimed for Bummy Douglas's head every round. In Round 8 i think it was,, he dropped Douglas for aprox 14 seconds, BUT i was v.happy teh count started late so Buster got up just before teh Long-Count ended, thank ****. Problem is, PEAK mythical Tyson wasnt good enough to win VS teh magical "Tokyo" Buster. He still would of got DESTROYED if he used jab, head-movement, body punches And combs VS Douglas - infact he would of been KTFO even earlier - FACT, cos his shitty Asthma-Stamina would of failed him earlier. Put 1988 Tyson in with Magical Unicorn-Rider "Tokyo" Bummy Douglas And he loses 10 outta 10 times, fo shizzle bitches. :deal Foreman Hooooooooook! :rasta:rasta:rasta
If your posts were ever meant to provide comic relief, I should advise you that you've extended your long running "I hate Tyson" gag well beyond it's sell by date. You're starting to sound like a has been who never was.
Bruno, Douglaz, Steward, McNeeley, Manthis JR, Seldon, Bruno 2, Holyfeild is teh good selection of PRIME Tyson fights he watched. :thumbsup
