Hello to all on Classic. I've been thinking about getting some of Patterson's fights but would like to know of fights where he did good inside fighting besides the Grant fight. I know he had a great jab and good head movement with great defense but what about some inside fighting? How would you rate his ability to fight in the inside? In conclusion, Patterson deserves more mentions. He was class even in defeat and showed heart throughout his fights and I'm proud to be a fan.

:goodRight. Floyd had it all. Quick hands, quick feet, smart boxer, and underrated power. He gets criticized for his chin but the fact is that he's gotten up from most of his knockdowns so it's not as bad as people make it.

Floyd was awesome and his chin wasnt as bad as it was made out to be. Remember he had a very unorthodox style with his leaping punches etc. He was often off balance. That accounts for a lot of the KDs he suffered not to mention he was a naturally smaller guy. Imagine if he had stayed at 175, a weight he probably could have made for years. I think he would have dominated LHW for years to come. As it stands he made more money and more fame at HW so not so bad.
Floyd had a nice style but he was one of the weakest heavyweight champions, all things considered. Liston and Ali beat him with embarrassing ease. Yes, Patterson could have been really good at light-heavyweight.
You have a point with Liston but Floyd went 12 rounds with Ali in the first fight and did better in the rematch. Nothing was embarrasing in the rematch imo. Liston and Ali are great too. IMO Patterson was greater overall than Liston but Liston just had his number.
I dont see anything embarrassing in the Ali losses. The first fight Patterson went 12 rounds with slipped disc. Thats pretty damn impressive. How many heavyweights could have done that with anyone much less arguably the greatest HW ever? In the rematch Patterson did quite well despite being nearly 40 years old. The Liston fights were blowouts but Liston was about as bad a style matchup for Patterson as you could. Head to head he wouldnt have faired any better against Tyson or Foreman but what would you expect for a aggressive blown up LHW going up against a big, physically strong, durable powerpuncher. Thats poison to Patterson and always would be.
That sounds about right but I still give Floyd the nod over Liston. I think Marciano would've been all wrong for Patterson too. It's amazing that in his late 30's he was able to beat Ringo and have close fights(some call them robberies) against Quarry & Ellis. Even at his older age he could've beaten some good names.
I think Patterson would beaten Marciano. I think Marciano's one punch power is overrated and certainly not on the level of a Liston, Tyson, or Foreman, and he was not nearly as big as some of the guys who gave Patterson problems. I can see an argument either way. Its actually a pretty intriguing matchup the more I think about it.
