Some cute quotes in this little article - perhaps none better than:

"You can't be the best act in the world if you stay in Australia, you've got to be there (USA)."

    - 'act' being a very fitting choice of words Choc.

    Mundine with little to gain

by Steve Jancetic - Nine MSN - Dec 6th 2010

Anthony Mundine is honouring his word by taking on The Contender champion Garth Wood, but there appears little upside to Wednesday night's middleweight bout for the two-time world champion.

will put his long-running winning streak on the line against a relative rookie at Acer Arena.

Unbeaten in his last 17 fights, Mundine's last loss was his WBA super middleweight world title fight with Denmark's Mikkel Kessler in June 2005 - 20 months before Wood's first ever bout.

It is a match-up that has many fight fans scratching their heads - with even Mundine admitting he had little to gain.

"I'm not looking past him ... I respect every fighter that jumps in the ring with me. He's going to see why I'm the best."

Mundine is hoping to use the bout as his final stop before embarking on a long-awaited shift to the United States in the middle of next year.

At 35, time is running out for him to make the move overseas, but it seems the time is nigh for `The Man'.

"I feel I'm at a stage in my career where I'm at the top of my game and if you want to get the big fights, you've got to be amongst it," Mundine said.

For Wood, who has a 9-1-1 record with five knockouts, fighting Mundine is a golden opportunity to make his name in the sport.

Another to make the move from rugby league to the fight game, Wood has been involved in boxing a fraction of the time of his opponent, with his 35 contested rounds dwarfed by Mundine's tally of 342.

The middleweight fight will be the lightest he has ever boxed at, having won The Contender television series at super middleweight level.

The one-time South Sydney fullback claimed he was up to the massive task - despite Mundine questioning his ability to take a hit.

"I'll take a free one from him if he takes a free one from me," Wood offered at Monday's press conference.

"It will mean everything to me (to beat him)."

It was a scenario Mundine was not contemplating.

"All your heart, all your courage or whatever you want to bring to the ring isn't going to be enough and you know this," Mundine told Wood.

"Even in his footy days, he believed he was better than what he was, in the fighting game he believes he's better than he was (sic) - I'm going to give him a reality check."

While the two fighters traded barbs at the media call, the best of the slanging was between Mundine and Wood's father Barry Wood.

Mundine has progressed from being a joke...to completely insignificant in the boxing world. RIP.

Wonder how much they would have had to pay Wood to step aside...not much more than the $100K they paid him to come down to MW and the $250k purse he's getting, surely?

Why would Mandy want to miss the opportunity for a easy win though?

This exactly whats wrong in this country with boxing.

I have been peppered with emails from Mainevent,,,Austar,,ads on this site & Yuku promoting this farce,,while the Dibb V Shaw or Elomar V Samba is far more controversial as a boxing event than the Choc BS.

At least there's some interest with Elomar facing a Lenny victim & Dibb fighting a war horse like Mick.

It's not about personalities, or picking winners.

In Dibbs case, he has to win this very convincingly & Trigger will be matching/comparing his skills with Lenny's.

There are other fights on the card that offer less interest, but the main event is an ochestrated manipulated event that will only become of interest if Wood does the unplanned unthinkable, & throws a spanner into Khodars charade.

I feel robbed. The rest of the card would be a fun Friday night on Fox, but they are wasted on this shitbag thing.

I gotta agree I think the Dibb Shaw fight and the Elomar fight will be good fights to see. I will be out there for the first fight as well Danyon Greig a very big boy. Interesting story trained by Lance Thompson and also lives with lances Exc Missus, heard today that first 2 fights will not be shown live but results and highlights to try and get the main fight on at a decent time

Also agree, the Dib and Elomar fights will be awesome, particularly if we get to see this pair of douchebags get brutally KO'ed!

Shame Kyle is fighting at heavyweight, should be super mid or l/h at most, I reckon he would do well at either of those weights, geez he's got a good eye and good skills
