He can't lose when he has a referee of choice.

He dominates his opponents, many of them top10 according to ring magazine.

    for me
    1. Ward
    2. Bute
    3. Froch

I had Bute #1 until recently, but I suspect other poeple's rationales were similar to mine. While he doesn't have a true marquee win (frankly, neither does Carl Froch, but that's a different story), he's 6-0 against guys ranked in the SMW top 10 (Andrade x2, Bika, Berrio, Zuniga and Brinkley) and he's generally been impressive in beating them. He beat Bika more dominantly than Calzaghe or Ward, for instance. The only close call was against Andrade, which was just that - a close call. If the fight was 15 seconds longer, he would have lost, but you can say that about a lot of fights. That, and he hasn't lost. If he had lost, obviously he would have dropped, but there's a lot of attrition involved on these lists as well.

You can't rate him that way on recent resume. I think performance, consistency, seniority get him put there basically, by some. He's been champion uninterrupted longer than anyone else, technically.

The Pikey from Romania fights over the hill dudes for the most part and always in his adapted home town .He will get smacked around when the boys from the Super 6 get around to him.
    Vastly over rated.

It's b/c of how dominant he has been, not only has he not lost any fights, he has barely lost any rounds, except the last round in the first fight with Andrade.

really if that's your excuse that is pretty weak

so by your logic mosley is better than pacquiao as he finished margo

and vince phillips is better than zab judah and julio cesar chavez

Being dominant to B level fighters is good, but not good enough to be #1. Obviously he is very talented he reminds me abit of Oscar he has looks and has an exciting style, but he is flawed and once he takes on the A level fighters he will get beaten. I think he is an elite at the moment, but no way is he #1. Just because Ward looked shitty in his last fight doesn't erase the fact he beat the Super 6 favorite. Just like Bute had a bad night in his first fight with Andrade then Ward also has an excuse to have one with Bika.

    1. Ward
    2. Froch
    3. Dirrell
    4. Bute
    5. Johnson

How many people ranked JC #1 SMW somewhere between 1997 to 2006, or even all throughout, before he fought Lacy/Kessler? Quite a few. What was Calzaghe's signature win at the time? Eubank who had already been beaten twice by Collins? Reid? Just putting things in perspective, in case the S6 winner becomes Bute's Kessler (re: JC)........

I see you included a lot of meat in your statement to back that up... :think

How about "**** 'em S6 ***gots, Bute's gonna wipe them all out after the tourney is over!!" - same level of objectiveness. :p
