...Am I miraculously not in on some ESB Classic meme? ...Should I start a Holyfield VS Big Boy Brown thread?
I was thinking of either: DelaHoya vs Dempsey or Hearns vs Qawi (Hearns would have the advantage, punching down and all...)
Marciano would score an emphatic win. Chuvalo would still be on his feet, but shipping too much punishment, which would prompt the referee to step in around the middle rounds.
I could actualy see Chuvalo making Marciano look prety bad while it lasted. I am saying this based on the fact that Marciano would not enjoy the same edge in speed as Frazier and might get forced into some clumsy exchanges. Not wishing to contradict the consensusd on the outcome.
Chuvalo would be no walk in the park for Marciano. Marciano wins over 15 rounds, but the Rock would have plenty of scares throughout the course of this fight. Chuvalo could bang and he wouldn't take a back step to the smaller man. If Marciano didn't retire and die tragically, this fight might have happened in 58 or 59.
He'd definitely get into exchanges, the way I'd see it too. But I still think, although nothing like the Frazier/Chuvalo speed disparity, there'd still be an edge of some kind for Marciano there too. I would like to throw out, and hope anyone can confirm and clarify or debunk this, but didn't Chuvalo have an eye injury that was suffered before the Frazier fight that was made an urgent injury during that fight, resulting in the stoppage when he turned away? Perhaps he would not have been stopped otherwise, if that's the case. Again, I heard this, I do not know of its veracity, it's not my claim, and I hope anyone can shed light on it. Chuvalo very possibly goes the distance anyway, I think. I can't personally see him having "plenty of scares" but I can see it being grueling for both.
Since joing ESB I've learned that Marciano was a light hitting, unskilled, midget who enjoyed a considerable size advantage over shop worn old men. Chuvalo's total lack of fighting ability contributed to Ali having the easist title reign in history...he lost to Corletti. I think this thread is racist.
