Evening all, I was listening to an interview with Larry Holmes the other night, and he mentioned a story about George Foreman. What I understood was George ordered his German Shepherd to jump off a hotel balcony, to show how disciplined it was. Does anyone know about this, and whether it's true or not? It sounded like Larry really doesn't like Big George. Thanks.
I seem to remember that the dog's name was Daggo. Not sure if I've got the spelling right. I've never heard this story. As for Holmes' animosity to Foreman ! Larry was probably jealous of George's latter career popularity.
Larry needs to let this **** go, i mean the two of them are atg. Why all the hate in the first place.
Big George is a bad, off-the-wall, invincible mother****er. :bbb He could control anyone And anything with his Intimidation ability! :deal
I don't understand it myself. I don't think I've ever heard Foreman say a single derogatory thing about Holmes, but Larry has always seemed to have it out for him... At Holmes' hall of fame induction ceremony, he went on for about a good 10 minutes about Foreman. He even attacked his grill... Frankly, I think Foreman was lucky as hell to have endorsed such a successful product, whereas Holmes was never asked to endorse ****..
is the same german shephard that walked off the plane with him in zaire? that was one of the worst PR disasters in boxing. Ali had won the support and respect of the entire African country. The locals didn't have a clue who Foreman was and naturally just assumed he would be white. Anyway, along comes Foreman a few days before the fight (I think Ali had been there for a week or so at this stage) and he descends from the plane with a German Shephard. German Shephards had been used by the Belgians in Zaire (formerly Congo and now Democratic Republic of Congo) to terrorise the local inhabitants (in much the same way as they were used by the Nazis in the concentration camps) and they weren't a very adored animal. Whatever chance Foreman had of gaining a bit of local support diminished as soon as he produced that dog.
True, they talk about that in When We Were Kings DVD Larry Holmes, an ATG, seems like a sore loser, Dissing Marciano, Dissing Tyson (For which he was KTFO) Dissing Foreman honestly, the guy isnt popular anyway, hes not winning himself any fans
Just found the interview if anyone's interested. It's the interviewer, Pedro Fernandez, who brought up the story. Larry Holmes confirms it and that the dog died, after speaking about wanting to fight Big George in the '90s. I'm presuming it was the same one he had in Zaire. http://www.******.tv/ringtalkworldwide/b/275122375
