margarito/mosley: I was a big margarito fan and was convinced he would grind out a great brutal win over old man mosley.I was watching it with a few mates one of whom is a complete ******.He was ranting that mosley would ko margo easily.I laughed at him told him, he didn't know **** about boxing (in fairness he doesn't) and said margos chin was pure iron.As the fight progress,I was still claiming "that just his style wait till the later rounds".Then mosley flattened him and the whole room started ripping the **** out of me.Then the commentator explained about the gloves situation its was my worst night as a boxing fan.plus the **** still brings it up everytime we talk boxing

Dunne/Poonsawat:My first live fight and what a night, the 02 was packed and the atmosphere was amazing. On the undercard some eastern european cab driver fought his heart out to get a draw with a irish prospect.Afterwards he went around the ring posts milking his applause with a massive smile on his face.Former khan victim ***an fought a cracking fight, I still clearly remember the thudding sound his body shots made as he landed them. The mainevent was filled with tension as most of the audience knew dunne was in tough. This tension was stroked by dunnes band backed ring walk and poons thai fist pump. The first round Dunne box smartly behind his jab.In the second poon slowly began to impose his will then the third round caused the whole arena to go queit (with the exception of a small but loud thai fan section) as dunne was knocked down 3 times and the ref ended the fight.Afterwards both fighters showed great class Dunne by thanking his fans for their support and poon consoling dunnes family.A great night:bbb

Ah wow, great topic, I've probably written all of these memories here before, but def don't mind doing it again.

Gatti-Ward 3 sticks out because I was 19, I didn't have any money, and still found a way to buy two tickets to the fight. Then I had to drive 6 hours from VA to AC, with no money for a place to stay, so me and my buddy turned around after the fight and drove 6 hours back home. This is more in my head because yesterday I just got my Micky Ward signed glove, where he also signed it "The Fighter" for the movie coming out next week.

Foreman beating Moorer - It was the only boxing fight I can ever remember my mom watching, and I was really young too. My mom got up and went off to clean or something because the fight was getting one sided, and she was pulling for Foreman. About a minute after she gets up Foreman knocks him out, and I scream "Foreman knocked him out!!!" and my mom goes "no she didn't stop lying" and I'm like "I swear, I swear!!!" LOL good memory there too.

I left my prom early to watch Gatti-Ward I, honest to god one of the best decisions I ever made, as it was the best fight I've ever seen, but because of the girl breaking up with me, eventually leading to me finding my now wife.

However, my wife hasn't had it easy either. We got invited to a wedding while we were still datiing in Roanoke, VA. Of course that was the night of Tyson-McBride. After the reception I call every bar and restaurant in Ronaoke looking for the fight. Of all places showing it, we found a Hooters, lol. Obviously a sad end to Tyson's career that night, but it was a great atmosphere. When we were leaving these two guys started fighting, and I was telling my wife to be to hurry up, as we were pretty close to being sucked in the middle of it. The whole time she's just staring at these guys, and later I ask what were you doing, and she goes "I'd never seen anyone fighting like that up close, I was sort of mesmerized." LOL.

Never in my life I don't think I will experience this again.

MAB vs. NAS we were there, me, my brother, my dad, and my grandfather.

We were the only ones cheering for Barrera where we were sitting, at the beginning, of the fight, and spent long time booing when the fight was delayed when dumb ass took forever. It was awesome watching him get his ass kicked and cheering, three generations of boxing fans. :happy:happy Sitting side by side watch Barrera systemetically dismantle that fool.

My grandmother had just died a couple of months before so we all needed to get away, it was awesome......

I have two that stick in the mind.

Cotto-Judah. I was relatively new to boxing, but just starting to learn more and more about it. Living in UK, there was little US based action on TV. However, I had just got Setanta, a new sports channel and heard Cotto was fighting on it and saw some adverts so thought I would check it out. I remember staying up late, people saying I was crazy as no-one else I knew liked boxing, but I pursued with it anyway.
The one thing that stands out was the pure fervour from the crowd. I'd seen huge football rivalries, but watching this, even on TV, gave me goosebumps. Then of course, Cotto wethers the early storm to grind Judah down and send the crowd even wilder. It just really got me hooked.

Cotto-Margarito Following the Judah fight and subsequent fights, I had become a bit of a fan of Cotto. I had seen a bit of Margarito by now so knew what he offered, and knew it would be a war. I persuaded my Dad to watch, no mean feat given his take it or leave it approach to the sport, but we stayed up. I was hyping Cotto up to him, telling him how great he was.
The first few rounds just enhanced my view of Cotto. Boxing beautifully, my Dad was impressed, but not excited particularly. Anyway, as the rounds go on, I see Margarito starting to hurt Cotto, despite taking so many hard shots, and struggle to even comprehend what I'm seeing. My Dad was conveniently pointing out Margarito was a tough *******, and I was in admiration of this but at the same time worried. Then Margarito seriously hurt him in the tenth, where I can remember starting to physically sweat quite a bit! Then the end came in the 11th. I was just in shock and awe. I supported Cotto, but could not believe what Margarito was capable of.
I watched it again the night after on my own, and started to really appreciate Margarito, but feeling sad for Cotto all the same.
    A real mixed-emotions fight.

Anyway, those are the two that stick out to me.

I'll expand on mine seen as I have the time.

Prince Naseem Hamed v Keven Kelley.

I was 9-10 when this bout happened. I thought Hamed was unbeatable at this point, I was very naive. I thought he was going over to the States and was going to knock Kelley out very early, without any trouble I might add.

I stayed up late and watched it with my dad, the build up was amazing...and no-one could sell a fight like the Prince.

    And of course the entrance...

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVpN7fYV8pg[/ame]

...just added to the excitement and tension.

When the bout started, and Kelley was catching Hamed off balance, knocking him down, etc...I was sat there making excuses to my dad, "He let him do that", "He's only putting on a show", etc. I honestly believed what I was saying aswell, like I said, very naive.

Then Hamed ended up winning in an amazing bout. Brilliant stuff.

Prince Naseem Hamed v Augie Sanchez.

I was 12-13 when this bout happened. I knew boxing a little better by now.

This was a worrying bout for me. This is the first time I noticed that Hamed was getting caught a lot easier than usual...I used to believe Hamed was untouchable, his reflexes were that good that no-one could hit him...once again back to my naivety.

But once again, what a bout...back and forth, two very dangerous punchers. This bout was the first sporting event to nearly give me a heart attack (Another example...Liverpool 2005 Champions League Final)...I thought Sanchez had his number and was going to catch Hamed and it would be over.

I was wrong, and Sanchez left on a stretcher...great bout.

Johnson vs. Jeffries for me. I was the only white man in the crowd actually rooting for Jack. A wonderful display of skill against a well past his prime Jeffries. The electricity in the air was just indescribable.

No but really, Bruno-Tyson II was huge for me because Tyson was my childhood hero and at the time I actually thought that WBC title meant something. Trinidad-Vargas stands out. What a fight! Rahman-Lewis II. I could go on and on.

Margo/Mosley:  Yea nothing is worse, than when a friend, who doens't know **** about boxing, call a fight, and you saying the opposite. I remember I was working, and checked the rbr (IB's I think) and hoping shane would pull the upset, when I finally ready someone's post "Mosley ktfo Margo!" I jumped out of my chair and started punching my co-worker :yep.

Dunne/Poon: I was not suprised in the least by this one, but I didn't see it live. I really would like to see a card at the O2, it always seems elctric there on big fight nights.

Danny Green v RJJ will never be beaten when it comes to my fav moment in boxing:happy
Living in Australia we hardly ever have any great boxers come down under to fight and even though rjj was getting old Danny was still a huge underdog.
it was still a massive occasion in aussie boxing,i still remember the echo of the punch Danny landed that dropped Roy.
It was just a great night aided by the fact i had my biggest win 17k on Green and also backed him at 67-1 to win by KO in rd1.
It was also good staying at the same casino as Danny and RJJ and the lead up to the fight was electric:deal

Razor Ruddock vs Bonecrusher Smith. I remember watching it replay on abc sports or something when i was a kid with my dad. When Bonecrusher went down, we both thought razor had smashed him to death. Seriously, we thought he had killed him. awesome display by one of the best we have ever had to offer.

Most dissapointing night was another razor fight, that halloween night, when lewis crushed him in 2 rounds. i remember being the only person at a party watching the fight on some little tv, then being the only one there depressed because that fraud had beaten razor.

    July 16th, 2005
    MGM Grand Las Vegas, Nevada

That date took FOREVER to arrive, all the training camp updates, all the "hype" all the "build up" especially locally, was over and it was fight night. My excitement went to another level when the man came out to "I can feel it coming in the air tonight" by Phil Collins (an unconventional choice but was perfect in this time and place). As the fighters entered the ring, the calm, composed, confidence of the Champion was apparent and the imminent execution seemed like a mere formality. For six rounds I watched the ignorance of youth, the lack of acknowledgment of just how huge the moment was, drive this small town country boy who was "just happy to be here" into the drivers seat of a fight that would prove to be historic on many fronts. I knew the "Bad Intentions" of the challenger would soon be tested and while it "seemed" as if things were going well, things aren't always as they appear. The Champion certainly wouldn't go this easily, but I don't know, I couldn't decide if I was excited about what had already happened or nervous as hell about what was going to happen, all I could think was "God Damn, I love this ****!". The trials and tribulations that those who knew the business expected, came and went, and at the end of what in looking back was a semi uneventful fight, I believed "we have a real chance". I remember stepping onto my back porch, lighting a cigarrete taking two drags, as I spun around Micheal Buffer was in the ring. As he read off the first two scores (obviously a split decision) it seemed like an enternity before he said the words that changed my boxing experience for ever..."AND THE NEWWWWWWWWW, UNDISPUTED MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD, JERMAIN....BAD INTENTIONS...TAAAAAAYLLLLOR". I didn't know whether to **** my pants, jack off, start crying, or go flip and burn some cars. So I settled for doing the robot like the dude on Chapelle and screaming "**** that motha****er", "**** that motha****er", "**** that motha****er" at the top of my lungs. I jumped the fence from my backyard to the front yard went into the street in front of my house and proceeded to "Crip Walk" from my house to in front of my neighbors house and back, acting like a ****ing idiot to the point that my wife is yelling that someone is going to "call the cops". My retort, "I don't give a ****, "**** that motha****er", and in my best Micheal Buffer voice I repeat "AND THE NEEEWWWW" Needless to say it was a joyous occassion and one that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
