max gets flattened larry could have his right hand tied behind his back and would still pummel max via kayo with the jab alone:think

This would look a lot like the shavers fight, I guess. I think max would do better though, I think he had a speed edge on the acorn.

I would definitely preffer to have my money on Holmes, but a Baer win ins not out of the question.

Interesting fight. I have no doubt I'd ought to bet on Larry (if I were a betting man -- I ain't, though). But Max has the big right hand, and probably better stamina and chin than Shavers. Could be a very entertaining fight.

Stylistic mismatch. Baer had no defense, was slow and often telegraphed those looping shots that he threw. Holmes would disect him over several rounds to a clear stoppage..

    Pretty much this.

Max Schmeling would have a much better chance of beating Larry imo.

Baer is better than Shavers and Holmes didn“t have an easy time with him. Baer can take Holmes but most of the time Holmes would win.

Boxing publications in the early and mid 1980s expressed the view that Baer would have the best shot at upsetting Holmes among the past champions below the top tier, due to the crazed unpredictability of his attack breaking the rhythm of a master of control like Holmes. Max had the durability and stamina. However, he needs to produce a stoppage to win, and I can't project that. I think the Holmes jab would induce the same nightmares Baer experienced after Loughran.

Baer is a considerably better bully than Shavers. Don't like that comparison. Holmes should win but I think he would have some genuinely horrible moments, and I think it would be closer than most of you guys.

I think that Baer is somewhat better than anybody Holmes beat as champion.

He would be the biggest test of Holmses career before he met Mike Tyson, and would have presented him with some stylistic problems.

I agree with that, "stylistic problems". The styles favours Holmes, vastly actually, and he is going to be landing loads, but Baer doesn't give up, will rush, has exceptional punch resistance. Those aggressive surges can be difficult for even a superb technical boxer, see Darchinyan-Mijares for a more recent example, though i'm not making direct comparisons.

Holmes matured late .Baer was the opposite .At their best Baer knocks him out
I use Curtis Shepherd as my terms of reference

Holmes slices and dices Baer to ribbons for a mid-rds TKO... "The Homer" all the way...
