See you have it the wrong way around, that fight, and a few other things are exactly the reason he SHOULD be in. I was never a big fan of Hamed at the time, but being at MSG and seeing that whole event was phenomenal, he brought something to the game that many boxers are incapable of.. Professional Boxing isn't just a sport, if you want that you can go watch the Amatuers. Professional Boxing is an entertainment event, and his talent in delivering that alone makes him worthy of HOF

 

naz should deffo be in, maybe not just yet, but a few years down the line.

tyson was a **** in the ring and pretty much everywhere he went, but not many people would say he shouldnt be in the hof, the same applies to naz plain and simple.

thats is how ****ed up the hall of fame is that it has taken this long to get hearns in there a true legend and very deserving to be in there a long time ago.....

Yeah. I'm sure that useless twats such as Dixon, Attell, Driscoll, McGovern, Kilbane, Young Corbett, Griffo, Armstrong, Chocolate, Canzoneri, Dundee, Pep, Saddler, Saldivar, Jofre, Arguello, Marcel, Lopez, Sanchez, Nelson and Pedroza would agree with you and buy you a pint for not undermining them. Moving on....

As for the modern inductees, I'm a bit annoyed that the only three first timers, and Tszyu in particular (although Mike and Julio were probably nailed on) are the three inductees from a shortlist that included Joey Archer, Georgie Abrams, Don Curry, Cocoa Kid, Ceferino Garcia, Ernesto Marcel, Jimmy Carruthers, Ken Overlin and a shedload of others.

The old timer and posthumous inductions seem solid enough though. Nice to see Harry Carpenter joining Reg in there, though it might have been even nicer if he'd been alive to witness it.

Btw, I'm aware that I'm not a regular on here, so my apologies if I'm coming across as a bit of a gatecrasher/tosser.

People do need to chill out on the HOF though. I see it as being what it says on the tin. A Hall of Fame as opposed to any acknowledgement of greatness and/or ability. Sure there are some greats in there, but it's more about services to the sport in my view than an ATG list.

Tbf mate i don't think he meant he "put it on the map" because he was somehow the best ever, what he meant is he made the little guys a bigger attraction and brought more cash to the smaller weights, which is true IMO. Hamed played a part in helping smaller fighters get on PPV.

 

To a certain extent mate, I agree, hence why I'm not too narked about Sly grabbing a pog in there. But I still think you have to distinguish between fame and achievements in the ring, and henceforth in what way they deserve to be acknowledged, ie. I have no problem with McGuigan being in on the basis that he's served the sport very well outside of the ring (albeit to a slightly overestimated extent), but he has no place there as far as his actual career goes. And I'm no great boxing historian or anything, but him being there when the likes of Elbows McFadden isn't even making the shortlist is a bit insulting. It's still a Hall of Achievement despite what the title says.

Like I said, Tyson and Chavez deserve their spots even if I think they've jumped the queue a bit, and the same with Tszyu to a much lesser extent. I'd be happier to see him there in 10 years or so.

Yeah mate, I was going over the top a bit tbh. Hamed will have a fair enough argument for being there in the future, though I rate him lower than most. PPV in it's own way has been one of the death knells of the sport imo (and I'm only 25, not one of the old timers). That's another argument for another day though.
The featherweights still had plenty of big earners and people who were known to a wider audience long before Hamed though, especially in America. Sanchez for example was massive at a time when PPV wasn't an issue, although once it did become an issue, I'm happy enough to concede that Hamed pulled plenty of more casual punters and the like. He'll be at Canastota in the future, even though my brain will scream blood once he is (and I'm from the same section of the same county).

But as I understand it (I don't really follow the HOF) its not as if Zoo got in at the expense of the likes of Garcia, Archer, Overlin etc as they are in different voting categories. Is that right?
