I know the grants the lads get on the high preformance may not be top money but it is enough to keep the lads in full time training still. Now with the way Ireland has **** all money and are in the **** after bailing out the banks that means less money floating about. So the next budget from a different goverment could well cut the grants by a bigger precent than this goverment has done leading into the 2012 Olympics. So it wouldnt shock me if the High preformance teams find it hard in the long term to fund the boxers to train full time. So it will mean that someone will have to fund it for it to continue. I dont think it is much to ask boxers who were apart of the high preformace teams to donate to the High Preformance if they turn pro. You would think that they would want to keep the High Preformance training teams going and give the younger boxers the chance to be a new Paddy Barnes , Darren Sutherland or Kenny Egan by going to the future Olympics and bring home medals.
What a waste of a year for A.Lee. Something big must happen in the spring/summer. Hes at his peak now, doesnt need to be fed anymore journeymen in 2011. One tough-ish fight and then some sort of a title shot
Dumb move to go straight into a world title fight in march, needs more rounds and better comp urgently ...... (Nervous fan)
Tony Mush. NYC during St. Patricks Day is like no other. There will be better fights in the pubs than in the Madison Square Garden. And thats with Irish families fighting each other. One crazy place,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, but Great!!!
Just watched the last 2 rounds of Afif Belghecam against Lee. If you watch it without the commentary you can clearly see that Jimmy McGee and Davey Boy were the ones panicing and making it sound a lot worse then it seemed. Funniest moment is with about 20 seconds to go in the last when Lee lands a crsip left straight in to Belghecam and DBMcauley says "there he got caught again" when in fact it was Lee taggin Belghecam. My only worry in the last round was that Lee looked a little tired but he won the first 9 rounds easily. The last round he just decided to bounce on the bike a little but watch it again for yourself without the commentary. Lee was fine just a little tired.
