No it speaks volumes of where Mundine is at in his career.

 

Nah, disagree. Saying that is giving credit to the Fighter A beat fighter B etc argument, of which there is none.

Last night says alot about Mundine's current state and given how much everyone wrote off Woods, it gives further credence to the 'anything can happen' factor in any fight.

 

There are only so many divisions an aging fighter can go down to avoid legitimate challengers before you start deteriorating greatly physically. Choc has never had good punch resistance but a career NRL player and super middleweight draining down to fight at 154 is bound to cause all sorts of problems, namely losing punch resistance and legs.

In hindsight this sort of thing shouldn't have really been a huge surprise, a bum like crazy Kim nearly flattened him, and that was when he was considerably better than he is now. Props to Garth, though he isn't very good, but he certainly came along at the right time and at the very least, he might not have much talent, but he has balls and some grit, something that could never be said for choc.

 

Even a ping pong ball can knock you out if it hits you in the temple at exactly the right angle and velocity!!!

 

all of the guys you mentioned are better than Wood.right place,right time,right punch.Geale is going places IMO.Mundine yo-yoing weight divisions and deteriation
as well as underestimating Wood caused this.

 

only taylor really made his fight into a brawl, unfortunately he was long past his best - but a brawl is exactly the type of scrap mundine doesn't like and ultimately undid him.

True mate regarding the brawling. That was the big mistake Green made in 2006. He tried to fight off a long jab, and basically tried to beat Mundine at his own game - bad plan.

 

woods is an ugly fighter- but i d say he s one of the best conditioned guys i ve seen for his talent in a while - he s relentless and has a heart like lance armstrongs.

 

he wanted to be just like roy jones- well he succeeded in dropping down in weight and being ko d by a very very average fighter in Australia!!! awesome!!

the guy never had a strong chin - a glass jaw like his old man, and never was able to unlearn the bad habit of looking away from punches when he slipped them, flinching at punches and blinking as they came at him. its something that is learned over decades of boxing, not years, its why guys like flloyd and pac are so good - when punches come at them- they dont even blink- they ll take a shot on the eyeballs- and not batter an eyelid, they see them coming, can brace themselves, and not fold. Chocs been doing this bad habit of his since he started- even sometimes turning away and turning his back on the opponent. it was a matter of time. anyone can get ko d by a punch you dont see , that + his old mans weak chin.....never had the stuff to be a world class champ. he wouldve been a great amateur, but the pros is a different game, its sometimes better to be sturdier than skilled.

happy for woods though, a true battle story- coming from where he did to do this- is a great story. should take nothing away from his win.

Everyone talks up Echols as one of Mundines greatest victories...

I say BULL****ING****..... Echols was returning from a long lay off from a bullet wound in his shoulder.... Check out Echols record after his lay off.

He had lost it totally.... He was never the same fighter.

Before he was shot.... Echols was right up there.... a genuine contender.... But Mundine didn't fight the "Contender" Echols.... He fought the "****" version.... and even then.... fought like a scared rabbit.
