But regardless of what any of you think about Paul smith as a boxer, and his chances against degale, the man deserves serious respect.

He is going up against a man that many people think he will lose to. He is at a stage in his career where he could possibly fight at a higher level and earn more money. Yet he has taken this fight. He didn't need to do it. But he has.
A man who is willing to take the challenges goes up in my estimation. And I think the same sentiment can be applied to degale. 8 pro fights, and he is testing himself against the top domestic smw already. That in itself deserves applause.
IMO both guys have taken on a High risk fight that neither if them really needed at their respective stages of their careers. Granted the rewards for both could be huge, but in an age where boxers are criticised for not taking a gamble, I think emotions or feelings aside we should respect these men for their actions.
    Best of British!

Agreed. If Paul can get his jab of old working he has a serious chance in this. If he doesnt he gets beat on points or maybe cuts for me. Its all in that jab, not sure when he lost it, but if its back, he can win. Kudos to both, should be a good fight.

Please take your toungue out of his arse. He deserves respect for fighting a guy with 8 fights in his hometown for a career high purse??

Respect to Degale for taking the fight but Smith is doing nothing acceptional.

Well said lad. Sorry to say, I can see an anti climatic end with Degale takin the belt with an inconclusive cuts stoppage. In which case i would hope he would respect Smith with the rematch. Hope I'm wrong and they dish out the classic this fight deserves.

That's very harsh Rob. Degale is the best prospect, bar none in British boxing and Smith didnt need to take the fight. Even though Degale is a 8 fight novice, most people would agree that he is a strong favourite in this fight. Smith does deserve a lot of respect for taking this fight - no doubt about it.:good

You said it mate. Prospect. DeGale won an eliminator for the British title. He would be Smith's mandatory. He fights DeGale or he vacates the title. He gets a career high purse???

Respect Smith as much as any boxer, they all deserve respect....but he doesn't deserve any special praise for taking this fight. Smith was talking about world titles earliar in the year now hes fighting a guy thats 8-0 and beat nobody...nobody of any substance.

Do you think Degale is up against it with Smith then? I don't think so - but hope I am wrong. Smith could have vacated and went for the European Title. I would take Degale against Groves all day long and genuinely believe he is the cream of the crop - top drawer.

He has taken a far more dangerous fight, like it or not Degale is a high risk fight for Smith, very loseable when he was possibly one fight from Stieglitz.

I don't think he actually would get the opportunity to fight at a higher level. If Warren thought he could this fight would not be happening. The super middle weight division is red hot at world level. Who's he going to fight (and beat)? Froch? Dirrell? Ward? Kessler? Bute? Stielglitz? Abraham?

Even if half of these guys were not in the super six, why would they just randomly fight Paul Smith? It doesn't make any sense to anyone except Smith. It is very unlikely he would get a shot at a world title and the same for the European.

Magee has made it quite clear he in not intrested in a Smith fight.

At the end of the day, Smith wants to earn some money. That's what he is doing against Degale. There is no other option for him. If he plods along fighting stiffs like Dodson he would probably eventually get beat anyway.

Exactly. If Warren genuinley rated Smith this fight wouldn't be happening.
He was not close to a Steilgritz or European title fight so he is cashing out on him as he knows anything beyond domestic level Smith gets beaten up.

Magee would have taken the fight on fair terms. His next fight is for the WBA title agaisnt Sartison. You can't complain about that.

I agree with Rob, the respect goes to Degale. Giving him respect for fighting someone who has had 8 fight in his hometime. It's laughable. He took this fight because of one thing MONEY
