holmes has one of the greatest chins in hw history imo. so maxie probably knocks him down a few times but in the end its gonna be a ud for holmes

 

disagree, holmes had a good chin, but he did not have one of the greatest chins. i would say that he was durable but he did show he could be knocked out. he had a great power of recovery and heart more than a iron chin. holmes was hurt by fighter who were not top punchers.

 

Yeah, one time in over 70 pro fights, with that one occasion coming when he was 38 years old, off for 2 years, and facing a man more ferocious than Baer by far...

it is not any excuse, prime holmes did show that he could be knocked out by a great finisher ass well. holmes fought wars To life or death against weaver,spoon,past prime norton, past prime shavers.simply prime holmes did not face a great finisher ,you put joe lois in the place of shavers and probably you get holmes ko. and shavers is "harder puncher than louis" but louis was better fighter and better finisher.

Let's not act like Holmes didn't get knocked flat by Renaldo Snipes and Earnie Shavers. He survived those fights, and would likely survive Baer's best punches as well, but he was not exactly invincible. With better finishing on the part of Shavers and Snipes, we might not be talking about Holmes among the greatest heavies.

His constant jabbing and a low left hand, combined with the fact that he didn't exactly have a prime Ali's reflexes, made him a bit hittable with right hands, but due to his toughness he'd pull through even if he did get tagged.

Baer's biggest problem here is Holmes's cutting jab, Max was very open for left jabs and didn't quite figure out a way around them other than trying to time his overhand right. Against Holmes, there's little chance of his opponent going away from the use of his left jab either. Holmes would be in control, but there could be some rocky moments. He rarely had any easy fights.

If I were to make a prediction, I'd compare the fight to the Bonecrusher Smith fight. Baer would press forward, absorb a lot of punishment, get cut but look dangerous. Even past his prime, while being picked apart by Lou Nova, he kept throwing bombs and eating punishment until the ring officials had seen enough.

He was decked and sent over the ropes by a very crude and limited Buddy Baer... He arguably lost his first fight with Walcott and was gifted the decision... He was sent reeling across the ring by Tami Mauriello....

Also, Earnie Shavers said the best right hand he ever landed was on Larry Holmes chin, and Larry got up.
Shavers stated, 'That right hand I hit Larry with had so much force, it would have
knocked out several countries'.

 

He also said that he hit Ali with similar punches, yet Ali stood up to them.

Larry getting up against Shavers was mind-blowing, but Shavers's inability to finish him off was almost equally as amazing. The wild, tired haymakers he was throwing wouldn't have hit a barn door.

Neither has much of a chance against prime Holmes in my opinion. If Shavers couldn't put Holmes to sleep with one of the hardest punches ever landed then what chance do they really have? Watch that fight again...Shavers is one of the hardest punchers in history and he landed a flush bomb. This moment, above all others in his career, makes Larry #1 h2h at HW for me.

 

obviously you said a ridiculous thing, because many people think that spoon did beat holmes really.

 

Larry may get decked by Baer's right,but he'd get up and stop Max before the latter part of the fight. His jab would do Baer damage.

 

a finished mentally version of foreman knocked out lyle and shavers could not. like i said .. the hitting power is not the only factor to knock anyone out, shavers had very bad stamina, glass chin and he was not the best finisher.
