I only put prime for Calzaghe because there's always a debate when his prime was. I thought he was at his best when him and Hopkins fought, infact he was a better techincal fighter by the time him and Hopkins fought, so his boxing IQ was a little better by than, he still had all his speed as well. 2001 Hopkins was a little quicker and more higher punchout put, so I think it's fair to say B-hop might have stopped or come close to stopping Joe being that he was beating him most of the fight when they fought. It was only in the laster rounds when B_Hop got a little winded and started to coast a little when Joe cameback, but he just outhussled him, he never beat him on placent skills or had a convincing round. Round 9 was joe's best. I thought B-Hop beat Calzaghe in their fight, I see no way Calzaghe would do any better against a 2001 Hopkins.

As much as I like Calzaghe,he would have been soundly beaten by a prime Hopkins. Their actual fight could have gone either way.

I thought Hopkins beat him in their actual fight. I think Hopkins would win prime for prime. I disagree that Calzaghe was in his prime in their actual fight.

    Calzaghe by decision.

Calzaghe would always outwork and beat Hopkins and Toney.

But would lose by decision to RJJ.

That's right. And he didn't look any different against Hopkins, only difference was he had a far superior opponent in front of him. But to me only how I can say a fighter is past it is when there's a slight deteriation of speed and reflexes and I didn't see that with Calzaghe in his fight with Hopkins.

He wasn't shot or anything, nobody's claiming that, but he wasn't in his prime in my estimation. But yes, i thought Hopkins schooled him in the rounds he won.

Don't you think Joe was better boxer by the time him and B-Hop fought?

It's a possibility, but it's difficult to gauge, you could easily claim that he was just as good in the years coming up to that fight, when he was actually in his physical prime in addition to being just as good a boxer, so whichever way you look at it, all things considered, Calzaghe of the Hopkins fight was not Calzaghe at the peak of his powers, definitely not. Hopkins was even further removed from his prime when they fought though. Hopkins was always a superb technician, not just when he was old and wise, contrary to what some think.

Good assesment, infact I think most people say he wasn't as good as technician in his prime because he really didn't have the great fighters to show case it against when he was at his best. I like the Glen Johnson fight, to me that was B-Hop at his peak powers. People bring up the Trinidad fight but I'd say the Johnson, I only said 2001 cause most people accept that at his best because of who trinidad was and how Hopkins beat him.

Yeah the Glen Johnson performance is great, and to me it showcases technical brilliance because he brutalises the life out of him and hardly leaves himself exposed to be hit back in any telling fashion.

This wouldn't be a particularly close fight as I see it. A B-Hop with no stamina concerns would simply pick Calzaghe apart with ease. A wide UD with a couple of knockdowns thrown in for good measure is really the only result I can envisage here. The gulf in class and skill is just too much for Calzaghe's workmanlike approach to overcome.
