Gutted it's on at 4 in the morning! last time i was up that late was for the hatton fight and woke up pissed out my face to see hatton getting knocked out! and to top it off sofa gave me a bad neck! not happy! i may just watch the repeat!

I'd rather him compare it to that than some of the ****, failed to live up to the hype fights he had, in fairness.

 

Amir Khan should win, but it's gonna be a "edge of your seat" type of fight all the way, no matter how much Amir is dominating. We can't get away from the fact that Amir IS "chinny" and i believe he's still campaigning at the wrong weight for his frame. Maidana is crude in most areas, but he's one of those fighters which the eye test doesn't work with, in other words you don't get the full picture by just looking at him. He knows himself, has the urgency, mentality and intangibles to give Amir big problems.

Amir is the better fighter all round and should really win this though, he has to fight close to a perfect fight and not take chances. Be efficient with his movement and economical with his output, beat Maidana to the punch, take control of the ring and DO NOT get trapped on the ropes. Lots of angles, circling away from the powershots and countering when Maidana falls short. The footwork and the jab will be key for Khan. He has to keep Maidana guessing and break him down because the Argentine is difficult to stop with one punch. Even if he hurts Maidana Khan has to be careful and not rush in with his flurries like he did in his previous fights, Maidana likes to try and get one big bomb inbetween your shots.

Khan will have to reverse the mental pressure Maidana will try to put on him and discourage him. The problems for Khan are, IMO he has certain sweet spots. He's young but parts of his makeup are in the state of a shot fighter. I speak of the reaction to temple shots and punches on the side of the head, it's not his chin per say but those "sweet spots" he has that are his biggest problem.

He has a lot of flaws which Maidana can take advantage of. Khan is not very good defensively, he's really not difficult to hit...it's just that he's utilising his footwork more now and putting his guard up. This might not be enough against a big puncher, because even if Maidana is hitting Khans gloves those punches might still get through. Just try and put your hands up and have someone take shots at your guard with you standing still...it hurts like hell, because the shots rebound on your face, it's almost like you're hitting yourself and it's counter-productive especially when you're up against a huge puncher.

Another thing i notice in Amir's fight game, which is a trait in most of Roach's fighter, he can't get a rest without getting hit...Watch him in every fight, when he gets tired he'll stand still and wait for the storm to clear. He doesn't do it in long periods and moves quickly, but he does do it. Even in the Kotelnik fight that was the only time Kotelnik had a shot when Khan stood in front of him with his guard high and waited for Kotelnik to stop punching before he moved away. The big worry for me is, Amir doesn't slip or roll with punches, he's the type that absorbs shots. If Maidana goes to the body, which he should and takes Khan's legs away watch out.

Khan also makes a big mistake when he's throwing straight combinations, he'll throw about 4 straight punches and overshoot, over-extend and fall in. This will present Maidana the opportunity to counter with a over hand rights or left hooks, which he throws surprisingly short and compact. Amir has to protect himself from the over the top stuff and slide under.

As long as Khan stays on his P's and Q's, doesn't stand still for long periods for that hard stuff, keeps Maidana on the end of his jab and doesn't get hit with an equilibrium breaking temple shots or any "phantom" punches inbetween his combinations, then he should dominate Maidana and get a late stoppage or a wide decision close to a shutout. As with every Khan fight from here, it's gonna be tense all the way because of his vulnerabilities and technical deficiencies, even if he has overwhelming athletic advantages.

 

This going to be one of the most nerve-wrecking fights involving a Brit ever seen I reckon. I think Khan will dominate but I can't see how Maidana will not have his moments and get Khan is serious trouble at some stage.

Very exciting fight, really hope Khan does it. This should launch him towards the big time :good

 

:good I mean, I was nervous throughout Froch/AA and Carl has a solid chin so even if Amir is winning everyone round you can't relax and think 'he's got this'.
