For the ones that kept asking why BUTE wasn't in the SUPER 6 from the start of it....

Bute, 30, fought two fights in a row on Showtime, in late 2008 and early 2009, but he was not invited to join the Super Six when Hershman put it together in July 2009. Hershman said his exclusion was nothing against Bute. He said the tournament was very difficult to put together and "the only way to get five promoters and six fighters on the same page was within the existing relationships I had. It wasn't that I didn't think [Bute and Bedard] were worthy or trustworthy. I just didn't have the depth of the relationship I had with the others."


Bedard and Bute were disappointed that Showtime left him out, but that's in the past, they said. "We were surprised because Lucian was IBF champion and one of the best fighters in the division," Bedard said. "We understand the reason. The problem was all the guys we were dreaming to fight were with Showtime. But at the end of the day, Lucian is more popular without being in the Super Six because everyone was speaking about him and asking why wasn't he in."

Nice work, it's true. However, this thread will be in the 2nd page tomorrow and you'll see these same comments about Bute ducking the super 6 and having a poor résumé. That's what I hate about this board. There's too many posters who wants to be "recognized", so they have to create a stupid thread each ****ing day, This way, you have 3 hours to read a good thread before it gets burried by stupids "who ducked who" threads.... or anything Pacman/Floyd related... or things like who's got a glass jaw ?

 

Now the question arises; "What the hell is Hershman up to?" Initially he stated clearly that Showtime rejected Lucian Bute and Kelly Pavlik because including them would cost to much. Now he is telling a completely different story.

Neither was ever invited, or even aware of the S6 until it was announced. As I recall Bute was trying to make a fight with Froch. Pavlik was trying to make a fight with Abraham or Froch. Obviously they were not aware of the S6 negotiations. The question now is, why is Hershman telling a completely different story about Bute?

The real reason is Interbox was wanting HBO money and they got it...Then Showtime goes around with the S6....Sounds like a good idea but.......

By the time the S6 was created it was already too late for Bute to get in..thanks to his promoters.

Interbox basically told Showtime "**** off, we got HBO money now"

 

Let Bute prove himself in the ring by beating Froch, Ward and Kessler after the Super Six is over, we'll see who the best is.

 

Bute should have been in the S6, but if you really read that article it kinda sounds like Bute didnt want to be in it. Like he was more interested in a rematch with Andrade.

My thinking is that his people felt that they could stay out and keep from having to fight all those good fighters in back to back to back to back fights, fight bums and then take the chance of stealing the thunder of the winner in one fight. Smart because with the lean knowledge of boxing fans today it would work like a charm should he pull it off.

 

Bute being outside the Super Six has actually turned out to be a good thing. Now when the S6 is all over, the winner will have someone legitimate to fight. Otherwise they'd have nowhere to go.

Just so everyone is on the same page here...

The S6 tournament wasn't made out of thin air within a single month or 2. It takes time to sort this kind of tournament out, with 5 promoters involved at the start.

The original idea was most likely brought forward by Sauerland events in Spring of 2009. From that point on for the next 5 months or so, not once was INTERBOX contacted by either SHOWTIME or Sauerland to see if they had any interest. That's the fact !! No matter how you want to spin it or think you know what the Bute team wanted...they weren't asked...period !!

Of course Bute sounded like he wanted to fight Andrade again because they had unfinished business but if given the chance to fight all the best right away, he would have accepted. Money was never a factor cause Bute never really made much more than the minimum that the S6 fighters were guaranteed for every fight.

Very rarely top fighters are eager to rematch opponents when in their initial fight, the end result made them look bad or didn't favor them to the public eye (such as Lewis-Klitschko). Bute deserved props just for wanting to convincingly close that chapter ASAP.

By the way, the HBO deal was only confirmed once Andrade-Bute II was sealed, nothing initially guaranteed Bute of fighting on HBO. HBO are the ones that contacted INTERBOX because they liked his style and wanted a solid presence at 168lbs, to somewhat counter what SHOWTIME was doing.
