I wouldn't bet on Rocky.......Gene had better skills....and Dempsey hit harder with his left hook than Rocky with his right hand ! In my opinion.....
I think Rocky breaks him down, its not just the pressure but the crouching defense, timing, body attack. Rocky would also be much stronger and keep coming and coming. That and the fact Tunneys low guard leaves him a little open.
I pretty much agree. However Tunney was one tough guy, having never been stopped in any of his pro fights.
It was pretty great. Which is why I think he could give Rocky major problems, considering how ponderous Marciano could be at times (from what I've seen).
I've always felt it was a real tough fight with Tunney's mobility but I think that Tunney would have trouble scoring. He's much harder to hit than the 1926 Dempsey. I also don't believe Tunney counter-punched better than Charles, and I feel that technical ability is just as important if not more important than athletic ability when facing Marciano just based on the number of punches he throws. Not sure if Tunney could nullify Marciano's left hook the way Charles could. I favor Rocky. 60/40 at the very least.
Great analysis. So do you think Marciano has a chance of scoring a stoppage? I could easily see it going to the cards, Tunney was a hard man to keep down.
I can't call this one...I will say this, that Tunney was at least two clsses above Roland LaStarza and tougher and more disciplined han Ezzard Charles, and if Rocky did beat Tunney, it would have been by a very competitive decision..a close competitive decision.
