Has nothing to do with the topic. Of course, Maidana is a dirty fighter no ****, but he was just swinging wildly (with legal pucnhes) trying to hit Khan in the last couple of rounds and when one hand was free Cortez would break them up and wouldn't let them work. Back on topic, Cortez is a shitty ref and he was protecting Khan.

Even RJJ commented on why the ref was breaking them up when their hands were free.

Cortez was bought as usual. It's a GBP/HBO fight, did you think it wouldn't be fixed?

Didn't see a problem with the reffing of this fight or the Floyd-Hatton fight. When fighters hold he pulls them apart... not too shocking really

Has everything to do with the topic...im sure referees know what sort of fighters they are going to be in the ring with...seen there past fights or clips...and yes his 1 hand was free...but if ur heads on the guys shoulder...and he;s trying to hit your head...usually all your going to his is the back of the head...hence the shots not being legal...

The only thing about Cortez is his inconsistency. He was also immediately breaking holds in Mayweather - Hatton, yet let it go unpunished in Hopkins - Calzaghe. I have no problem with a ref who does it either way as long as they maintain consistency...different people see the game differently. There's no doubt that Hatton, Maidana and Hopkins use clinches to fight dirty, but only two of them were punished - probably correctly - but why not Hopkins?

What your describing is a different part of the fight I'm thinking of. The one your describing, yes, Cortez should break them (he obviously did) because Khan was also holding Maidana's head down in the process (and of course he was never once warned for holding Maidana's head down) but what I'm taking about is when Khan's back was against the ropes and he would hold Maidana's arm Maidana's free arm would hit Khan, legally, and Cortez would break them apart, instead of doing what most good refs would (or at least should do) and that is let them fight out of it. Cortez wouldn't do that and he would quickly jump in.

his refereering style helped khan at some points but he let a lot of dirty tactics from the argie go. he also let khan get away with a lot of holding of the arms without warning

If he was protecting khan, he would have stopped fight in first round Maidana was f****d.
