I believe he is more hated for reasons i do not know than being overhyped.. Haters always hate. Maybe they dislike the guy for his name, race or simply his face.
what's overhyping? i'll tell you it's when someone like roach says khan will be ready for mayweather end of 2011 (that's two fights from now)....after yesterdays brilliant performance...intelligent people will still have to admit khan is not ready for mayweather - maybe is 6 or 7 fights maybe but not next year. also roach was selling khan like he was the best boxer he's ever had on par with pac....he didn't live up to that billing yesterday... although i understand they need to say positive stuff...some stuff is a bit too much and earlier on in his career a lot of stuff was said and not backed up....now however....he has backed a lot of stuff up and people should get off his back after last nights performance.
This fight showed me a new aspect in Amir's game in that he showed he can fight through adversity but it also reinforced the notion of how vulnerable he is from big punchers. Its not hating, not for me at least. Yes he took flush shots prior to round 10, he took them well and I felt he was in total control of the fight. But that single hard shot he ran into is telling. Sure it was a great shot he didnt see coming and those are usually the ones that does the most damage...and yes these kinds of shots would scramble anyone's brain. What's telling is that he never really fully recovered from that single shot. He was in immediate trouble the last couple of rounds of getting dropped. Amir did well showing composure but it doesn't take away the fact that again his chin is susceptible to failing him at any time. It doesn't take away his chinny reputation, if anything this fight continues to reinforce it.
I though Khan was all hype before last night. His chin isn't amazing but definitely good enough to be a top tier fighter. I gained a lot of respect for him last night. Maidana is no joke. I think Americans hate him bc he is a Brit/Muslim and Brits hate him bc he is Muslim/Pakistani.
those sort of shots have put better chins down. surely you have to say he recovered enough to box (or run) for the next 2 rounds.... not many would be in their sense after round 10 beating. khan is legit and has got an ordinary chin but massive massive heart....
I have said it before its because hes not American ! If u want to talk about an overhyped fighter lets talk Kelly Pavlik:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl
He's fought one of the best in the division and gave a good performance. There are *****s in the armour but he has time to improve. I've always said he can clean up the division and thers no reason he can't go on to do this.
I disagree when you say Roach is over-hyping Khan, he's his trainer he has to show public belief in him otherwise their relationship would suck. I do agree however that Khan is not ready for Mayweather. But as Schaefer said, the aim is to fight Judah/Ortiz in UK next April, then winner of Bradley/Alexander later. Only after that could a move up in weight to face someone of Mayweather's ilk be considered.
I've always thought Khan was legit, and at worst he has a shaky chin...not glass, but exploitable by the best ounchers. Thats what i got from this fight, Amir has alotta heart. Maybe it was this attribute that compensated for his shaky chin.
Khan had heart a long time ago. When you watched the Prescott fight, he was doing his damn best to stay upright. He was never KTFO, but he was on unsteady legs. Even when the fight was waved off, he was still trying to get up. What changed was the conditioning and training he got from Ariza and Roach. Mentally speaking, Roach gave Khan a lot of confidence. If you've ever seen Ariza push Khan and Chavez during their morning sessions, they are worked very, very hard on their legs by the Colombian. Khan's legs are stronger now than they were back then and that's the most likely reason why he could stand up to Maidana's 10th round onslaught and shots all around the fight.
Who would you say is your favourite fighter/ fighters? I'm just interested because seemingly by your standards, they must win every fight very easily right?
Id doubt whether Alexander or Bradley would stand up to the punches Khan landed on Maidana at times last night. Although Khan has serious flaws to address, his confidence must be sky high knowing that he took huge shots from the biggest puncher in the division and didn't go down. Dunno if Bradley or Alexander would of got up from that body punch that put Maidana down, he was in agony, kudos to him for getting up to beat the count.
