Tony, who do you want to face next? Is it a case of taking a slightly easier fight to work on some things so that you can come back stronger in the second half of next year? What did you think of Clev last night?
I thought the performance showed a lot of heart. The fact that Bellew got up off the canvas twice in the first two rounds to eventually drop McKenzie says a lot about him. Maybe the ref did step in early but that was out of Tony's control. He just beat a very good fighter in McKenzie.
I agree with this post. Bellew isn't fooling everyone. He put up a pathetic performance vs Ajisafe (moaning to the ref, whinging etc) and actually won by one point on most cards. then got bounced off the canvas again at domestic level last night. The new Enzo Maccarinelli. Needs to get away from Farnell and get a top trainer to teach him some defence and basic skills but of course Farnell is the best trainer etc. When Bellew gets sparked, he'll move from Farnell. I don't think we will be waiting long to see him sparked. Also he should refrain from mentioning his name in the same sentence as Cleverlys name after these performances. Again, he is not fooling anyone and I think Frank Warren knows how limited he is as long as he stays with Farnell.
The whole talking to the camera thing after the fight and the arrogance really irritated me. A lot of flaws were shown up and he came back with the 'I'm the best, know's one gonna beat me, no one's gonna knock me out, I'm a mother****ing *******'. The post fight interview said it all 'Nobodies gonna beat me, I carry my punch all the way through the fight'. Just another banger I'm afraid, he has a more text-book style but that doesn't make him skilled, his jab is there pure for aesthetics, he doesn't take control of the fight with it. Careless defensively and I'm concerned that these vulnerabilities have been shown up again straight after the Ajisafe fight when he said he would learn and eradicate them. Sorry Tony, but I'm not impressed. You've got a lot of serious improvements to make before you can harbour ambitions of winning a world title. I'd love you to prove me wrong, but the chances of you getting there are looking slimmer and slimmer as fights go by. Way off at the moment I'm afraid. On a positive note, you got back up off the canvas twice, the second took some heart as it looked a heavy knockdown and won the fight. You've got a lot of lessons to learn from your last two fights and you're only going to improve as a fighter with these eye-openers. Don't waste it by turning a blind eye and looking just for the big punches all the time. Best of luck though.
You all need to lay off the splifs!! Tony dont take this **** to heart mate. theres always gonna be haters but just remember that as long as your being noticed and talked about then it doesnt really matter!! you know what happens in the ring... these clowns dont!!! :deal cleverley would get absolutely smashed to pieces by bellew... easy work!!! clev isnt powerful, he isnt very skilled, he makes easy fights look hard... for ****s sake wake up you lot!! bellew knows he needs work and he doesnt see himself as special. he just wants to learn and get better. cant you respect him for that? hes fighting much much tougher guys than clev is!!!! period!!! :deal
I don't know how he got up from that second knockdown, watching him go down like that and within seconds he got up without even blinking.
Of course. But his perceived arrogance post fight cloud's his own judgement. It doesn't sound promising when he needs to make so many improvements to his game and he sits there post-fight saying 'I'm a mother****ing *******, nobody can beat me' and talking about his power when he has so many technical flaws to work on. It makes me sit here and question how much he's learning from these fights because he went in with McKenzie yesterday and starting looking solely for the right hand again, which is exactly what he said he wouldn't do after Ajisafe.
Agree with you mate. He seems a very nice guy on here and I appreciate him coming on here and would love to see him do well. However he is relying solely on his power, telegraphing big shots and looks too slow for me, at least clev has a bit of handspeed and his punches hit the target. Bellew looks wild and misses a lot. Needs to calm down in the ring, passion is good but he was acting like he'd just beaten manny pacquiao or something when he's beaten a game domestic level fighter who has a reputation for gassing after the first few rounds. I think one problem is Tony is desperate to be a star and always wants to impress but in doing so ends up looking for the knockout all the time. I haven't seen anything in him that shows real boxing class. A better boxer would have got up from that first knockdown and got back to business and let their boxing do the talking where as for Bellew it hurt his pride and then he felt the only way to redeem that is to knock the guy out. He needs to start boxing and breaking opponents down, picking his shots and show us all he really is good and isn't just a guy with a punch. Good luck Tony.
Tony firstly it was a cracking fight. I thought you were out with the second knock down. Do you think maybe you focus too much on your power. In the pre fight you were saying things like anyone i hit goes , you said similar before Ajisafe too. Do you not think it would be better to box jab, focus much more on defence and if the ko comes it comes ?
