Something I noticed about Roach's fighters (Khan + Pac)

Roach is overrated. He looked really bad when he said that Khan will end the fight in 6-7 rounds.

He's just lucky to get good figthers with natural abilities. That's all.

 

When Roach took on Khan, Khan was considered the biggest joke in the sport and will never amount to anything.

Where is Khan now in the sport?

 

Now forgive me for injecting race into this discussion, but if Bernard Hopkins lauded Freddie Roach as the best boxing trainer in the world - who in thee gods green earth are you to criticise Roach as being overrated? No offence.

 

Pac and Khan don't counter?

Pac was drawing and countering Cotto with a lot of success, and Khan showed a great counter jab and cross counter against Paulie.

 

Are you serious? Khan made Maidana miss most of his shots. And that macho hit me while I stand there defense isn't taught by Roach.

That's Amir Khan copying Pacquiao to prove a point. Roach defense is based on constant movement, not standing in front of the other guy and letting him hit you. Roach doesn't like it when Pacquaio trades with other fighters, he also hates it when he stays close to the ropes.

It's not Roach's fault that both Pacquiao and Khan have strong warrior mentalities.

 

Khan still needs a bit more work...his "D" is still patchy. But the high guard or "ear muffs" does work effectively with most shots...the Uppercut is the problem with that defenseive posture. That's why Josh, Marg and Maidana were trying so hard to land with it. Midana was the only fighter with a lot of success with that shot. PAC doesn't stay defensive too long and he does counter beautifully out of that guard. Khan looked good and proved he does have a chin, but he's lucky that fight wasnt' 15 rounds....he looked gased by the 10th.
