Khan is a great boxer, he has come a long way, however, last night the ref bought him a lot of time with his antics. Money talks, and I believe the little things that the ref can influence were all skewed in Khans favour. He is going to run into real trouble one of these days. He will get a neutral ref, and someone like Maidana will kill him, I mean KILL him. He looked very scared toward the end. And I noticed the crowd booing, and the guilty look on his face as he put the belt on. My 2 cents.
People are going over the top with this referee bull****. Khan did a **** load of hold, yes. But Cortez was there to break them up when he needed to. Remember, he was dealing with Maidana's rabbit-punching and elbows, too. People are seriously butt-hurt and mad at the referee for not doing what they wanted him to do - stop the fight in the 10th, and give them the joy of being able to mock Khan for another stoppage defeat.
Cortez must have warned Khan 15 times at least for holding Maidana's head down, yet he deducts no points. Maidana throws one elbow and it's a point straight away. He's a joke.
Khan did a good job to survive when he was badly hurt, but yes, when Khan had Maidana on the clinch, Cortez would step in to break them up just as Maidana was doing it himself....... .....there was a few times during that 10 round where Khan was badly hurt that Maidana had released one of his hands from the clinch, and was banging Khan with his free hand and about to get out of the clinch. .......Cortez should not break the fighters in that situation when Maidana is fighting himself out of the clinch....... .....If say for instance Cortez was favoring Khan in the fight, to step in right where Maidana is fighthing himself out of the clinch is doing Khan a huge favor and Maidana a disservice. Fighting himself out of the clinch benefits Maidana as it puts him right where he wants to be, on the inside ready to unleach the uppercuts he was landing them with regularity on Khan.
You are wrong there, I think that the ref kept interfering when Maidana had momentum, I dont think he should have stopped the fight. He saved Khan more than once, and Khan's face after the decision said it all.
Maidana deserved the point-deduction for deliberately trying to elbow his opponent in the face. And it wasn't just a sneaky one like an Andre Ward does. He actually lashed out with it in frustration. That is far more guilty than pushing down on an opponent - a trick which countless other fighters use (Mayweather, Wladimir etc). Also, Maidana went on to throw countless shots to the back of head and hitting after the break, later on in the fight. So having one point deducted, was actually pretty fair.
Maidana's momentum would break everytime Khan would hold on to him. That's what saved Khan - his holding! Not the referee. Cortez had to break them up.
Exactly. I bet the rest of the very biased uk fans won't admit it but Cortez was easily favoring Khan.
That one arm would regularly find its way to the back of Khan's head. You expect Cortez to let him continue punching with it?
Why did Maidiana keep hitting on the break! Huh! Thats what I wanna know. Cortez kept trying to seperate them and Maidiana was still throwing punches. That is super ****ed up.
Most of the time it was on the chin or on the cheek bone when Maidana was landing with arm free doing Khan clinching. <<<That time Cortez should let Maidana get out of the clinch in which he's trying to do.
