Did anyone pick Tyrell Biggs to beat Mike Tyson in 1987?

    Folks,

I uncovered my 1987 tape of "Tyson-Biggs" from Trump plaza and casino...:deal

I thought Tyrell Biggs boxed like a master for the first round. However, by round 2, Biggs seemed to settle down on his toes' and quickly became reduced to a punching bag by a raging Mike Tyson.. The hell happened to Biggs' game plan and stamina by the middle of round 2???
    :blood
Tyrell Biggs was 6' 4" tall and weighed 228 pounds next to the 5' 11" tall and 216 pound Tyson...
    :good
People can say drugs and drink did Biggs in as a boxer, but, that sum ***** was very lean and toned in his career... Biggs obviously spent time in the gym training hard; he was no slob...
    :think
By round 3, Tyson had Biggs cut badly over the eye and was walking his man down...

By round 4, it was just a matter of time before Tyson would get Biggs outta there...

Round 7 spelled doom for Biggs, as he was parked by Tyson from a wicked hook that sent Biggs down and out...

AGAIN! I was disappointed in the very hyped Ty Biggs in his title shot against Mike Tyson in 1987 on HBO...

Who else expected much more from Ty Biggs as a pro?:huh

He should've been expected to win only slightly less than Chisora should have to beat Wlad. When a guy, especially at heavyweight, has that few pro fights and goes up against the best in any era, he normally just doesn't have enough experience to draw on.

I was ten years old for this, so I wasn't a fan yet, but I do know this fight as having the best postfight interview ever.

    Pure gold.

Hey, Bill. Have you noticed the same thing I think I'm noticing lately when you review these older (but still modern) heavyweight fights: Larry Merchant used to talk about the betting a lot and now it's never mentioned. I've been watching a lot of Tyson's fights from the late eighties/early nineties and it seems like whenever they near an over/under, Larry chimes in to point it out in addition to the mention in the pre-fight buildup.

New policies and political correctness is now enforced everywhere you go... The last 10 yrs has been bogus in my book... Young managers and execs have screwed up what was once cool...

Plus, I've watched Larry Merchant health go to hell since 2002.... Larry is senile and on some heavy meds... I like him, and I'll miss him when he steps down from HBO... His career at HBO is closing fast....

    MR.BILL

    NOTE:

Merchant used to quote 'Damon Runyon' a lot yrs ago... But he stopped that as well... Why? I don't know...

Too right it was ! It's a shame that Biggs did n't really have a chin. May have been interesting if he had of done.

Biggs was a classy mobile boxer who had the type of style to give a pressure fighter like Tyson trouble. The problem is his people knew he had personal problems so they cashed him out. He was cut very badly in his previous fight by David Bey, and that cut reopened against Tyson.

BTW Poventkin is still undefeated and being brought along correctly not thrown to the wolves to cash out with good wins over Byrd and Chambers, so I dont know why you think hes a flop if thats what your were implying.

    Too right m8. :thumbsup

Biggs has a DISGRACEFUL Glassy-Jaw,, BUT he out-boxed teh **** outta PRIME Tyson in a "wannabe Ali-style" in Round 1.

This PROOF Ali schools Tyson easily Prime VS Prime IMO. :deal

    Foreman Hoooook!:rasta
