Khan vs Maidana

I had it scored 6-6 with Khan winning due to the point deductions which were fair. As the fight got to the 6th, 7th round it was reminding me off the Cotto vs Margorito fight. I was convinced he wouldn't be able to stand up to that pressure for 12 rounds but he did and credit to him. I always new he was brave but he is a tough SOB, exciting and his punch resistance has improved. For me Khan is the no.1 at 140lbs. I do not think Bradley or Alexander could stand up to the punishment either Khan or Maidana dish out.

The fight I want to see next.....Maidana 2. For me it 100% FOTY. It will be a bigger fight 2nd time round so why not do it again.

Ortiz vs Peterson

I had it 95-93 to Ortiz and I think most had Ortiz winning but got the feeling if it had been 12 rounds with more notice Peterson would have won it. Ortiz clearly lacks something mentally thats stopping him progressing, reminds me a bit of Jermain Taylor.

Lets see it again over 12 rounds and why not on the same card as Khan vs Maidana 2

Guzman

What a waste of talent this guys is. Unless he sorts himself out and goes to 135lbs I have no intrest in him.

DeGale vs Smith

Extremly impressed with DeGale. Cannot say anything more that hasn't already been said but still look at DeGale and see so many flaws and think he can be beaten by a big Super Middle.

That man could be Groves and that fight will happen this year. I understand why DeGale is the firm favourite now but I cannot stress this more....GROVES IS NOT PAUL SMITH. He doesn't come straight forward throwing basic punches, DeGale won't be able to back him up with a flicking jab and he has the power to make DeGale fight scared.

Smith needs to go back to Middleweight. If he wins a few fights he could get in the Barker/Macklin mix but I have never really rated him.

Cleverly

Obviously the worst he has looked in his impressive run since the Oakey fight but I do think it was his toughest opponent. Although the guy has been stopped before in 1 round, I think anyone can get caught cold. This guy would cause anyone problems, is a legit top 25 Light Heavyweight. Also we have to bear in mind Lakatos was an orthadox coming forward fighter.

Cleverly will be mandatory for the Shumenov vs Braehmer winner. Its a tough fight but its what you expect from a world title. You could say that Cleverly is not ready, but a guy like Shumenov is only going to get better so it may be worth fighting him asap. I personally think it will be Bellew next as Warren will want to cash in on that fight before either man lose.

Macklin

Tough night for Macklin. I heard he had a cold before the fight so I won't read to much into it, but Varon was beaten convincingly by Strum and stopped by Zbik in 4 rounds.

I have always though Barker would beat him and I don't base my opinion on the eithers last 2 fights. I can't see either man being a legit world champion and I think the fight agaisnt one another is the best they can go far. Hopefully it will happen next year.

Bellew

Tony is likes and respected on this forum for all the right reaons. He probably gets an easy ride on ESB. I will tell it how I see it his last two performances have been sub par agaisnt gatekeepers. McEnzie has him in trouble and a better opponent would have made him pay for those mistakes. Its the 4th time he has been knocked down now.

Bellew can clearly punch but he seems to rely on it to much, he looks awkward at times and loses concentration. Theres a good fight in there but he is not show it at the moment. As I said above I see Warren getting the Cleverly fight on next as he may be worried both could lose. If that isn't the path he takes I would like to see Tony move up to Cruiserweight. There he can concentrate on pushing forward as a fighter and work on technique instead of a 10 week training camp based around making weight. I don't see him loseing power at Cruiser because he is a natural puncher.

Brook

Not much to say really the guy needs to step it up. I rate him but understand why others get on his back. He can't have another year treading water like 2010.

Hopefully the Mike Jones fight happens at some point as I think he wins it. I genuinley beleive the better opponent he faces the better he looks.

Bantamweight tournement

Agbeko did very well to get the win but I see Mares out boxing him in the final. I had the fight for Mares 116-111 which is wider than most. Some even have it the other way for Vic. Hopefully if he beats Perez we see a rematch before Donaire/Montiel/Moreno get involved.

 

I actually think that Maidana will be better prepared. he knows what work and what doesn't. Genuinley I think Maidana can win the rematch.

 

I think it took him 4 rounds to recover from the body shot. If he doesn't get hurt he goes for him from the 1st second.

It was such an entertaining fight why not see it again.
