Of course its easy to pick on Duane Bobick.
Yes, he never developed as a Professional.
But his amateur career, up to the Knock-out loss to
    Teofilo Stevenson, was extremely impressive.

And, if he avoided Ken Norton and just went straight to a Title
shot with Muhammad Ali, would he have gone 15 Rounds.
Ali wasn't punching hard anymore, and Bobick's style may just have been
busy enough to make the fight competitive.

Bobick would never have troubled Ali,or any of the top fighters of the period. Did n't have the skills, and he was mis-managed. He had his first 20 odd fights against tomato cans, then fed to the lion that was Ken Norton.

Losing in one round to an aged Norton, then being stopped within the same time by a very green John Tate, does not bode well for Bobick developing into anything beyond ordinary. As already mentioned, he had average skills, a weak chin, and crap management. He was another Tommy Morrison, only probably worse.

If Duane Bobick's management could have just kept him on the fringe, and not allow him to tackle any 'hard hitters', they may have just walked him into a 'Title Fight' with Ali in
    1977.

They had to know his chin was suspect.
The Norton fight should have never been made!

During the early 70's as well a great contenders Like Foreman, Norton, Shavers and Lyle breaking through into contendership, Every month seemed to herald a new Heavyweight Dangerman to watch out for. such as:

    Jeff Merritt
    Ted Gullick
    Walter Moore
    Al Lewis
    Dave Matthews
    Jose Luis Garcia
    Morris Jackson
    Pedro Acosta
    Boone Kirkman

    Plus may others,
They didnt make it, but they certainly brightened up the 70's Heavy Landscape for a short while.

For a flop he sort of went the extra mile; beating Evander Holyfield 2 out of 3 times.

In the late '80s there was a fighter I saw that I was very impressed with. Weighed around 210, a chiseled frame, fast as lightning, good stamina, a sharp if not hard hitter. Looked great. Then, he disappeared from sight and resurfaced 5 years later having gained a ton of weight and looking like Leroy jones in physique and huffing and puffing his way through matches. A total disaster. His name was Eric 'The Whip' Curry and I thought he was going places. Does anyone know what happened to him that he disappeared for 5 years?
