Bute is going to coast with another tomato can and then wait for the big money fight with the Super 6 winnner. He's not going to risk that potentially huge payday by taking on a dangerous fighter in the interim.
Marcus Johnson: He's undefeated, he beat 25-0 Derek Edwards last April on Shobox, he fought last month, and I think he could beat a bunch of the guys in the IBF "top 15."
Of course, dear Nothingham fan. He's so afraid that he just signed a three fight contract with Showtime to fight the best fighters of the division. :-(
is der ny chance of bika...he gave a good enough account of himself against andre ward and has fought competitivley against good opposition probly wont happen but hes a better fighter dan alot of the names being tossed around
Hi Pantera. Nice to read you again. Bute and Interbox both said Mendy was completely out of question. I think it will be Dirrell, which will indicate that Showtime agreed on his decision of quitting the tournament. Maybe Dirrell will be his second opponent on Showtime though. I don't believe that Sartison and Stieglitz will accept to fight Bute, but it's not impossible. Showtime is giving a lot of money and that could be enough to convince them. I'm not sure that Allan Green would accept neither. Martinez won't go to SMW for the moment. Pavlik is still in cure, not ready for Bute. Interbox and Gym promotions have accepted to never announce an opponent when the other group is promoting a fight. So, after Pascal-Hopkins, we should hear something about Bute's next fight.
Again...SHOWTIME isn't paying Bute $2million per fight to beat tomato cans until the S6 winner is available cause that fight is no guarantee as per the contract, although the Bute team definitely want it in the US. SHOWTIME will match Bute with the best available opposition for every possible fight. Right now, if you wanna bet a few bucks on the next opponent, pick Andre Dirrell !! I'm sure they're going to get that one announced by the start of 2011.
Dirrell will have been out of the ring for a full year. If he fought Bute without a tune-up, he really would end up with brain damage. Kessler is the WBC "champion in recess." If he comes back, he will most likely fight a tune up, and then a WBC title fight. Abraham might drop out of the S6 which would leave Ward free, but I doubt if AA could drop out without serious repurcussions. Froch/Johnson promises to be one helluva fight, but it means neither is available for Bute. Bute defended against Miranda, Zuniga, and Brinkley, but those guys all had some name recognition. I do not think the other guys on that level have that. If I have it figured right, Pavlik will discharge from the Betty Ford Center the first week of February. I could be wrong, but I have reason to believe he is in their 90 residential treatment program. That would not leave time for a decent camp, and he would need a good tune-up anyway. So ? ? ? ? guess we'll have to wait and see.
No he's not. Where the hell do people get this idea? He is injured, however. Anyway, my money's on Jean Paul Mendy. There's nobody that great to fight at the moment anyway, and he might as well get his mandatory out of the way. Two fights from now, I suspect he'll fight Dirrell or Kessler, once one of them is well enough to fight again. Ideally, now that there's extra TV money in the pot, maybe they'll be able to convince Universum to let Stieglitz or Sartison fight Bute on neutral ground.
Where has he or anyone from his team ever said this. Here's one where he says he's NOT retired and that he plans on fighting the winner of the Super Six. So the burden is on you, otherwise you're just talking out of your ass. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/boxing/2010-08-25-8408357_x.htm
