I think because for Whitaker 147 was his normal fighting weight and for Chavez it was 140 at that time.

It would be stupid for chavez not to request for a catchweight as his team was initially requesting the fight at 140, at the time even chavez is new at 140.

Because JCC was the NAME, Had the better promoter & drew the fans... (Sound familiar)
But truth be told, Chavez beyond 140lbs was a fish out of water.

Pea should have taken the fight at 140lbs.
Considering this fight had been talked about since Pernell was a 135lbs kingpin.

    :huh

I said the "Catchweight" was unnecessary in all of Pac's recent fight's.
(Wouldn't have changed either outcome, Pac wins either way)

Get Manny's sack out your eyes for a minute.

:think So this thread was made just to bring up Pac's name in a comparison type deal... Sorry I fell for it.

Have you seen Whitaker Vs. Chavez?
The "Shadow" I speak about is the doubt people use as an excuse.

No excuse for Chavez, 140lbs was his limit period end of story.

Because Chavez is a ***** ass drainer catchweight king, just like Pacquiao. Both are a shame to boxing.

Chavez didn't force Whitaker to 145 Boom....they both wanted the fight and it was a MEGA match up between two of the best P4P fighters at the time. It wouldn't have been fair for one champion to have an advantage over the other one with one being bigger the other smaller. So they got the fight done where the playing field was level. I think Whit got robbed but oh well...it was a great fight non the less.

Because Chavez wasnt on PEDs like Pacquiao is today.

Sweet was a Welter at the time and yea....JCC wasn't at his best above 140 but he was still a top level fighter...just not a good. Pea and Chavez were BOTH top guys with BIG names. And Pea was already established at 147. They met in the middle which was fine. Probably would have been more competitvie at 140 but Pea losing 7 lbs may have been too much for him at the time and Chavez was getting older and adding 5 add'l pounds seemed like a good move for him.

PAC isn't on PED's fool. Everyone knows it's the "A SIDE OF MEFF" ALL foreign countries had access to that from what I hear in the streets.

Did u see the fight?? Let me make it clear Because they knew what they had in front of them ... they knew they needed every advantage .. but to their credit .. it was 145 and not 140 .. so the risk wasn't much bigger
