The Ring Magazine Joke Super Middleweight changes

This is one of the worst posts I have read in a while... and that's saying a lot ... we all know how this Forum can get.

 

I haven't bought into the Bute hype yet, although I still like him a lot and am a big fan of his style. You can't seriously count wins over the likes of Joppy, considering a blown up welter Tito absolutely decapitated prime Joppy in 5 rounds while it took Bute double that to stop a shot Joppy.

 

Joppy is not one of Bute's best wins, that's for sure.

 

This is exactly the problem with the Super6. It overrates the fighters involved.
What exactly does it mean: "ward has beaten more quality guys consecutively"?
Who?
There was only one quality guy: Kessler. How is that consecutive then? And where does the "more" come from?

What does "fighting on the biggest stage" mean? The Bika fight wasn't even part of the Super6. Alan Green wasn't one of the original "Super6" and shouldn't even have been a replacement. He was exposed by Donny Mcreary! atsch

4 Dirrel beat Abraham lost to Froch
5 Stieglitz title holder nice win over Balzay and a few defenses
6 Johnson moved down beat Green
7 Abraham beat natural middle Taylor lost twice at the weight also I think has been exposed
8 Sartison beltholder
9 andrade
10 Bika

Kessler is out of my ranks with the injury if he fights I;ll put him back if he wins he is top 5

 

When Kessler fought Calzaghe, Bute was number 3. After Kessler retired, Kessler got #1 by default and Bute was bumped up to #2. But then Kessler went MIA for a while and then came back to beat some losers who weren't even on any radar. Despite that, Ward fans claim Kessler was still clear-cut #1, so they can pump up Ward's win.
More realistically, Bute and Froch had caught up with Kessler by beating all those in front of them, making them level and leaving the #1 spot up to be decided.
By virtue of his win, Ward joins that company, but that sole win shouldn't put him ahead of Bute and Froch. That still remains to be decided.
Kessler kept pace with the new trio by winning against Froch.
Bute meanwhile has been frozen out of these matchups, but that doesn't mean he's below Ward Kessle and Froch. His comparative position remains to be decided, for lack of direct confrontation, but we can look at how each of them handles other fighters in the division.

 

Great post I totally agree with the 3 way tie at the top with Bute Kessler Froch and its a matter of opinion

Bute keeps winning agaisnt whoever will fight him
Kessler lost to Ward but bounced back
Froch was up there but lost but bounced back
Ward got in the picture beating Kessler but has no follow up win to solidify

 

Not only does Bute keep winning, but he takes care of business the way he's supposed to against those who step in the ring with him.
His much-maligned match-up with Jesse Brinkley is a better win than Ward's over Green.
Truth is, when talk first came up in summer 2009, Bute dismissed Brinkley as unworthy. But, Brinkley got into the mandatory position by beating Curtis Stevens, and doing it better than Dirrell had.
Green, meanwhile, did nothing to deserve a shot at Ward's belt. And still, Ward couldn't KO him. The same way he couldn't KO Miranda. I'm sure he wouldn't have KOed Brinkley either, not even once.

 

Take The Ring ratings for what they are, the opinions of their panelists. They also moved Pacquiao from #2 welter to #1 welter after he fought at junior middleweight (haha, kind of) against a guy who was and is unranked amongst any top 20 list in either of the two mentioned divisions.

That is much more worthy of bitching about than Ward's placement over Bute. Ward should've always been ranked ahead of him anyway, but Bika was The Rings' #6 when Ward beat him, so that is reasonable enough to shut up anyone who is unjustly whining about Lucian "has one or two quality wins in his whole career" Bute.

 

I don't see a problem with moving Ward up after beating Bika. It seems Ward had the advantage with his stand out win over Kessler which Bute couldn't match. Bute had the advantage of depth on his resume which Ward couldn't match and the Ring went with Bute based largely on his depth advantage. Now Ward beats Bika which gives Ward another quality win and closes Bute's advantage of having the deeper resume so Ward's win over Kessler puts him at the top spot. Its pretty simple and just a matter if you agree with the Ring or not.

Why does almost everyone have Andrade behind Stieglitz? Is it because Stieglitz holds some paper trinket? Andrade beat the crap out of Stieglitz, and even his second-tier wins over Tsypko and Mack are as good as the best guys Stieglitz has beaten.

Anyway, I have it:

1) Ward (just passed Bute with the Bika win)

2) Bute (depth of schedule but no marquee win; very close to Ward)

3) Kessler (beat Froch, good recent win over Sartison, and a long history of other good wins)

4) Froch (strongest schedule, but only convincing win was Abraham, and what I view as a loss to Dirrell docks him a bit further, but still very close to Kessler)

5) Dirrell (once again, I thought he beat Froch)

6) Andrade (only losses are to top tier guys, and has beaten a lot of pretty good fighters)

7) Bika (only losses are to top tier guys, some decent second tier wins, and gave Ward, Bute and Calzaghe arguably their toughest fights at 168)

8 ) Abraham (still gets some credit for the Taylor win, but not much of a resume at 168, and his resume at 160 was even thin despite all the defenses)

9) Glen Johnson (only one fight in the division, but a solid win over Allan Green where I thought he was winning convincingly, notwithstanding the official scores; Johnson, Sartison and Stieglitz are almost interchangeable right now)

10) Dmitri Sartison (I think his wins over Gevor, Bozic and Perdomo with a loss to Kessler just barely edge out Stieglitz and his wins over Balzsay and Gutknecht and losses to Andrade and Berrio; head to head, I think Sartison is just the better fighter)
