[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMLqQrGDQhw[/ame] Not a brilliant fighter he was against, not a fighter in his prime but it was one hell of a beatdown. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zy8sDSk_1As&feature=related[/ame] First punch from Toney was beautiful.
He is a great one, one of the best in his generation. He will fight again in January and hopefully one of the three champions, has balls to face him after that. Lights out vs. Hayemaker, now that would be something.
Yes! :good Toney v Barkley is one of my favourite fights of all time. A real masterclass, as you say.
Exactly. :good Even one victory over journeyman, would lift Toney to top 15 in eyes of most organizations. Couple of win against top-30 contenders would probably earn Toney the mandatory shot for some of the titles. He should stop wasting time in MMA nonsense and stick beating contenders and taking names in the boxing ring
At his best, Toney was more skilled than Floyd.Floyd can still learn a lot of things from James regarding inside fighting.
Mayweather is more mobile and versatile than Toney. Toney was a better in-fighter and had better workrate and combinations than Mayweather. People always talk about how Toney took too much time off during rounds, but he also threw a lot of punches, because he so often let his hands go in combinations.
Why do you want him to get a shot at a Klit? if we have learned anything from watching the Klits, its that defensive fighters with inferior intangibles in height and reach who cant compete from range who resort to trying to draw the Klits in to giving up their range so they can counter, usually get dominated from the outside and their counter punching opportunities come few and far between, as the Klits outside of Hopkins & Mayweather, are the most disciplined fighters in Boxing when it comes to retaining their advantages regardless whether its a boring fight. Only two ways you going to take away the Klits advantages, lateral movement to offset them, or come foward aggression to make them fight, not that those strategies aren't without their problems.
I am not sure about this. See for example, Toney started at 160 and fought elite guys (Jirov, Holy, Peter..) 30 - 70 pounds above that limit. I mean, do you see Floyd taking onguys like Martinez, standing in front on them while still being cometitive. Therefore, Toney at his best (against Barkley, Jirov, holy), was a more skilled overall than Floyd.
Lol @ people saying Floyd is a faster version of Toney. Yes they're slightly comparable but Floyd doesn't have the balls Toney does and wouldn't move up to take the risks Toney did. He wouldn't face someone as dangerous as a prime Pavlik. Toney also fought about 80+ bouts. I understand that Floyd will never achieve that but the least he could do is fight at least twice per year. I laugh when guys call Floyd greater that's disrespectful to Toney and I'm a fan of both. Needless to say that Toney was better for the sport and at least he was wiling to put his "0" on the line against a prime Jones. Floyd still hasn't mustered up the confidence to face Pacquiao. If Toney was in Floyd's shoes, he would've fought him by now.
