I see in Khan shades of Sugar Ray Leonard

    The reach, the height, the hand speed, and the jab...if only he'd improve his foot speed and his defence.

    IMO, he is the only existing boxer that comes close to SRL's style. Again, not saying he's even close to SRL today, but he can be if he improves.

    Also, leave the "nut hugging" BS outside the thread, thanks.

    his defense is borderline terrible. only resemblance to leonard is hand speed and that's not even close. fail

    Hand speed, reach, height, jab from long range.

    See some of SRL's earlier fights and Khan's earlier fights. That's where i noticed the similarities.

    Evalistinho, posters like you are the reason i made very sure i wasn't comparing the two, just saying that if Khan improves his abilities, his style could end up very close to SRL's.

    I don't see much of a comparison. There's lots of guys with fast hands.

    Leonard fought way more relaxed, had more fluid and compact combinations, power and turned over more of his shots (except when Leonard decided to do more of his shoe-shining). Leonard used his upper body more in his defense, while Khan's more about his legs and movement. Leonard had more of the inside game that Khan lacks. Khan relies more on his jab than Ray did.

    I'm actually not sure whose style I'd really compare either guy two, but not each other.

    Don't make threads like this. It just draws stupid replies like the ones you've gotten so far. Like the guy who said the handspeed is not even close.

    Go watch Hagler vs Leonard, and then watch Maidana vs Khan.

    You'd have to be blind not to see, not only the similarities, but also how people continued to complain after that fight that the refs and judges favored Leonard heavily and that all he did was run around the ring with Hagler, almost EXACTLY the same criticism made of Khan after his fight with Maidana. In addition, both Khan and SRL are suckers for pleasing the crowd, which is part of the reason why they fail to follow their game plans.

    Certainly, as I said before, Khan is far from SRL in his prime, but the similarities are unmistakable.

    Kisuke, I don't fear criticism for making a fair comparison between the two styles, I welcome it. What I fear, is that in a year's time the only threads in this boxing forum will be on the same caliber as those made by Zakman...

    Theres a massive difference between an ATG/legend of boxing and a hype train with no chin. Please dont insult SRL with such comparisons.

    I'm thinking of how Leonard usually fought. Not how he fought Hagler, or the Duran rematch. Leonard rarely ever fought like that. Those were rare exceptions.

    Leonard also followed his game plans well. He claims that Duran suckered him into a brawl in Montreal with his trash talk, but Leonard usually fought flat-footed and was more aggressive anyway. He said before the fight that he'd duke it out with Duran in a flat-footed manner. That's what happened, and he lost. He changed his style for the rematch, and won.

    Leonard's game plan against Hagler was to use movement and "steal rounds" with that 30 second thing. He knew not to face in a more aggressive manner against the larger, iron-chinned Hagler.
