That doesn't answer my question. The performance could be described as being special given how he did the impossible by standing up, just barely, to Maidana's best shots. That being said, Maidana is not a special fighter, and has never proved himself to be, so I'm struggling to understand why this is a special victory? It's a pretty good victory, albeit disappointing given how Khan seemingly had all the attributes to make this an easy night.

Erm, it wasn’t a flawless performance, but the manner in which he did it?

It was his first fight against a power-puncher since his Prescott defeat, and he was putting his fragile chin up against the biggest banger of the 140 division, and one who possessed a nightmare style for him. He was hurt on numerous occasions, rocked badly in the 10th, on the verge of losing, but managed to dig deeply in the face of adversity, and win.

But apart from that, it was nothing special.

Agreed. The manner in which he won may be described as being special but the win itself is just a very good one.

Maybe you understimated Maidana's ability, and overrated Khan's. Defensively, Khan has never been proficient. He was never going to be in this fight without being hit flush by Maidana's bombs - which is why I predicted a knockout loss for him. But he proved everyone wrong by taking not just one flush shot, not two, or three....but a continuous assault. Noone here envisaged Khan to win in the manner he did. His win was special for this reason.

    That's a fair statement.

Continuous assault of flush power shots? ...No.

I think this victory would indicate that Khan isn't going to be as special as some have suggested. He's to hittable. I'm not sure it'll even see him climb to the top of the 140lbs class. Time will tell, though.

I NEVER thought id say it but Khan changed my mind about him. Iv been one of his harshest critics on here and i never thought he had it in him to have a real scrap like that. He deserves respect from now on. Its time to give him a break. He will definatly be beaten again before too long but hes shown now hes a good fighter.

HOWEVER....lets also not forget, he was taken to the absolute brink by a guy who most people said was limited and had no chance, a lot of people were saying Maidana had no skills and wouldnt be able to touch Khan all night and that it would be Khan to KO Maidana in 6. Maidana also deserves huge respect he looked finished in that 1st.

As for Khans chin...it will never be the greatest but the improvement in it since his move to 140 is undeniable. His chin is reasonable now

I guess you popped to the loo whilst the 10th round was going on.

I have no problems with uploading the whole round if you like, Rico? I've watched the round about 8-9 times now, and Maidana lands on the button I think perhaps twice in the round. The rest were clubbing shots that landed partially on Khan's gloves, short hooks inside that had no leverage on them, and body shots. The idea that Khan took 6-7 flush powershots to the face in that round is absurd, he'd have been laying on the canvas catching Z's if he had.

If you'd been following the scuttlebutt on here, you would recall that a lot of folks (especially our self-appointed resident fool 'chincheckers') did not believe that Khan could get anywhere in this sport on account of his wobbly chin.

That, combined with the fact the he was facing the hardest hitter in the weight-class who was one of the top four in the division and had around 90 % KO ratio, further combined with the fact that Maidana landed one of his biggest shots on Khan's chin with lots of time left in the round, and that Khan survived and won the fight.

That might be considered a special win at this point in the lad's career.

I'm at work, so I won't be able to watch it. So Maidana only caught Khan with only two decent punches in that 10th round? I seem to remember him having more success than that. Also, let's not make the mistake in thinking that was the only round in which Maidana had found the mark. He hurt him on numerous occasions before the 10th. In fact, the first 30 seconds of the very first round saw Amir on the recieving end of two hayemakers!

It's safe to say Amir survived an incredible assault. Even Marcos himself said:

I haven't watched the fight since it happened and I did'nt watch it as closely as I like to, but maybe it was a culmination of two things, Khan getting tired, making himself a more stationary target, that and the way he holds his hands, which is high around the side of his head, ALA Manny Pacquiao, as apposed to in his eye line?

I dont think its a coincidence that Manny and Cotto are also open to that punch, and both have their hands glued to the side of their head.

Khan has to be the p4p greatest boxer who makes me respect him after his fight and lose it all after one of his stupid interviews. Third person is one of the most sickening things ever. Only Rickey Henderson can pull it off.
