Ortiz vs Koletnik would be a good fight I think. They could call it "Battle of the 'eh... I guess they're ok' or whatever"
He beat Alexander last fight, but was the robbery of the century. A few more rounds, Kotelnik would have stopped him.
The actor Jack Palance, who was in Shane is from the same town in Ukraine as Kotelnik and is a hero of his. If he gets a chance Kotelnik will give Alexander(again) or Bradley or Maidana a tough fights which he could easily win. part of his problem is that he is not from a "big" country like the others. Someone like Khan has always been in the limelight and been a big name which attracts the media, Kotelnik doesn't have these advantages. His style was not suited to Khan but it doesn't mean he is not a threat to the others.
King doesn't seem to have too much negotiating clout these days. Kotelnik himself perhaps doesn't make enough noise either. Gets to a point where people don't even know the guy exists let alone being involved in competative fights at the top level. He needs to start calling guys out, can start with Alexander to get that rematch, maybe if he loses to Bradley, but I can't see that happening. Another bad performance against Kotelnik would wreck him.
Because he's not exciting or on the mind of american boxing fans and just because he beat alexander doesn't make alexander anything special even though I think alexander will KO bradley. Even though bradley beat witter (his best win) witter was overrated by the hatton haters and bradley didn't look anything that special beating him.
That's a good point. I didn't think Bradley looked great against Witter either. He is a good all round fighter, but not special in anything. Kotelnik had a close fight against Witter as well. The guy has mixed it with good class for a long while now. Man would have loved to see a 140 straight knock out tournament. Not a super six format, but a straight elimination tournament. It would have pitted the top 6 light welters and we would have been able to determine who really is the man without any doubt.
Can't find a direct link to where it says that he turned it down (didn't exactly look hard), but this fight was considered and Kotelnik didn't want it. It was well known at the time which was two months ago. http://boxing.fanhouse.com/2010/10/03/victor-ortiz-andriy-kotelnik-being-considered-for-dec-11/
Kotelnik was robbed, everyone knows this. And it is also the reason why his name will never be mentioned again. Don King Effs up another great boxing career.
High risk...low reward at this point. Gives anyone at 140lbs a good bout. Didn't show his best against Khan, but came back very well against Alexander.
