Louis-Schmeling II gets my vote for #1.

Bowe-Holyfield 1 is one of the best modern performances. Probably doesn't match up to the likes of Frazier-Ali 1 and Ali-Foreman, but it's still up there IMO.

    Dempsey-Willard
    Ali-Liston I
    Foreman-Frazier

Ali-Cleveland Williams came to mind. Ali certainly looked great, but I don't think Williams was able to offer enough of a challenge for Ali to BE great.

Hard to argue with that in terms of over all importance, followed by Johnson/Burns

But in terms of entertainment, I'd pick Dempsey/Willard, Dempsey/Firpo, Ali/Foreman, Ali/Frazier, or Holyfield/Bowe I. But if pressed to narrow down to one, I'd go with Dempsey/Firpo

(changed my damn answer 4 times that's how hard this is for me to narrow down to just one performance)

I've settled on my top three. In chronological order they are - FOTC 1971 Frazier. Sunshine Showdown 1973 Foreman. RITJ 1974 Ali.

First one that popped into my head when I'd only read the title of this thread and not clicked into it was Max Schmeling's derailing of Joe Louis - that for me is one of the greatest in my eyes.

It's funny - sometimes some of the most memorable performances for me, were in defeat - such as Ezz Charles' incredibly brave stand against Rocky Marciano for 15 rounds - and also Cockell's courageousness (if thats a word) against the Rock and for that matter Archie Moore's proud stand against the Brockton Blockbuster too. Holyfield's epicness against Bowe I also is a great performance - I think Ali's two best performances for me are Vs Norton II and Vs George Foreman - Billy Conn's performance against Louis in their first classic is another one - but out of the ones you listed Ali-Foreman takes it hands down
