HBO needs to stop trying to sell Americans guys just because they're from here.

its hard to stomach though when day after day you see delusional p4p rankings from american fans cos they are brainwashed by hbo and ring magazine.

its like an ignorant, narrow minded disease running through an entire country.

It's not where the boxers are from, it's that they're horrible at bringing up fighters. The only recent fighter brought through the ranks well was Cotto, who I thought was brought up perfectly. They protect their fighters way too much and spoil them with ridiculous paychecks(Berto being an example). Out of all the fighters to promote the hell out of they pick Berto and Dawson, while talented have about 4 fans combined. I want to see more Mayorgas and Gattis, not horrible mismatches on cards. The undercards are ****ing pitiful too. Just a load of prospects beating up cans. Why not chuck Golovkin v N'Jikam on an undercard instead of Chavez Jr. versus some bum. Hell they don't even have to be Golovkin level fighters. Throw somebody like David Lopez on an undercard.

****ing weak cards are pissing me off lately.

I completely understand what you are saying. This is a common mistake that leads to overhype. Many people only rate fighters who they recognise and discredit fighters that they dont recognise. Many on here dont realise how good Zsolt Erdeis record is, because alot of the fighters on his record arent known to the American public, so they instantly discredit it, yet Erdei has a better resume than Dawson. I imagine this is why T Cloud pulled out of fighting Erdei.
Still this constant hype has made a great list of hype jobs -
    Pavlik
    Dawson
    Dirrell
    Jacobs
    Tarver
    Lacy
    Green
    Taylor
    Williams

When America began to know the name A Abraham, they started to overate him. I openly put out prediction threads saying that Froch would beat Abraham who was a former MW champ, whos big win was who? And who has no real SMW resume, and that Froch could even make Abraham a hype job. I also put out a prediction thread that Pascal would beat Dawson and with reasons. The hype around Dawson failed to see his big wins were over 2 fighters 14-15 years older than him and one with double figure losses.

    They never learn

even flores and alexander got recently exposed. then you look at the way the yanks have hyped the likes of glen johnson who got his ass handed to him by sven ottke and has lost 14 times, yet they use him as a means to hype their own fighters, its pretty sickenning :dead. even the likes of judah got hugely hyped beyond his means :-(

Exactly. They dont even begin to realise that the fighter who exposed Flores, had lost his unbeaten record to Marcus Beyer, and was beaten by Beyer in a rematch.
After Lacy got defeated they all jumped on him for being a hype job, yet Lacy beat Sheika and Vanderpool who both beat Johnson. In fact at SMW, Johnso has got as many losses as he has wins :patsch, Loses most of the time he is stepped up, yet still highly rated. Unbelieveable :-(

the only way to find true champions is to get them world class trainers to get the most out of them, and put them in with live tests step by step.

sink or swin, none of this berto fed big paychecks and bums.

like calzaghe with his carefully chosen fights at the right time.

if he wanted to be big he should have gone to america, fought some guys, got some good wins, got attention, made public notice, and made top guys at time fight him.

he just stayed at home waiting for the top guys to get old to then fight them!.

and his good wins vs good opposition were overated by the opposition being hyped up bigtime.(lacy & kessler, past it old eubank, old bhop he lost to!,old past it jones.)

now the way khan and froch are doing it,thats the way you do it,go abroad fight the toughest tests, look to win several titles and unify the divisions.

Completely ignorant, and the complete point of the thread :-(.
Calzaghe was willing to go to America (and defended away), and Jones and Hopkins were both offered and didnt want to know.
Why as champ should Calzaghe have to travel for lesser opponents, he was champ, and travel to fight who, when Hopkins and Jones backed away.
Calzaghe has a fantastic resume with many very good fighters. Veit and Mkertchyan were world rated fighters who have done more at SMW that Dirrell and Abraham for example.
Beating a healthy undefeated Kessler was a good win.
Eubank was 31 nad had only lost twice to one opponent, the first time debateably and the second time by SD.
Calzaghe beat Hopkins sandwiched between Hopkins best wins of Tarver, Wright and Pavlik, when Hopkins was Ring LHW champ and P4P #3. If Hopkins is so past it, why the hype for his fight with Pascal?
Jones was still rated by The Ring.
As for Lacy, tell me one active American SMW with a better win resume than Lacy. There isnt any. G Johnson who is rated as a top 10 SMW now has lost to 2 SMWs Lacy beat

You really are clueless and represent an example of the point of this thread

Yea it's really difficult to understand or even comprehend why HBO, an american television company would showcase and promote american based fighters(hint dumbasses they're from everywhere)

Take a look at boxing history and where are the Americans?

People can say what they want about HBO or Showtime but they do in some cases force good fights (currently Andre Berto is the only exception).

Thank HBO for Paul Williams-Sergio Martinez. Both Dibella or Goosen didn't really want the fight, especially Lou. On the flipside I really don't think Paul wanted it. Why else is a man that's 6'1, holds a previous "victory" over Maravilla going to force a catchweight..

In the end I'm not saying HBO isn't shady and horrible in their fighter selection at times but they do help the sport giving me for the most part enjoyable fights to watch.
