and after watching Khan vs Maidana, you can really see the gulf in class. Pac vs Cotto is a fight that was operated at a whole different level of speed. I'm not talking just handspeed but I mean reactionary time. Everything in Pac vs Cotto is about split seconds, immediate reactions. The fight is so dynamic, especially the first 6 rounds. And the thing is, Pac vs Marquez II was even more. You watch Khan vs Maidana and it just pales in comparison. That's why to me, the making of a good fight is not necessarily whether it's competitive, but how much total ability the fighters bring to the ring.

I don't think Khan will ever acheive anything near what Pac has achieved. I think in the best of scenarios, if all the stars align, he will reach Cotto's status.

    And I'm not a hater, I'm a fan.

^^ short post but good comment. Mentally, he has a long, long way to go. Time will tell. I hope he proves me wrong.

If he stays focused and disciplined like it seems he is doing now, he could reach Cotto's level.

There's flaws with Khan which put major doubts in my mind about him reaching elite level.

He beat a puncher last weekend and I take my hat off. The real test comes when he faces Bradley/Alexander.

Khan is young and still learning so only time will tell. The thing with fighter like Pac and Khan is that Pac throw all his punches with the intention of landing. He wants every punches to land or have their purpose. Khan on the other hand fight like he's scared so he just throw his punches in bunch and hope that they land.

There won't ever be another Pacquiao.

No one is doing what he did again, at least not in our lifetime.

me too... im expecting something more after 2 or 3 years.. he has a talent.... i gave him credit when he win against one of the bigger puncher of 140lbs if not biggest puncher of the divisions.. but i can't understand myself.. there is something inside me keeping me doubt about his punch resistance.... That is why he's one of the exciting fighter today for me.. one tap on the chin.... haha... it's boxing... anything can happen...:yep:yep

    Exactly my thoughts.
Which is why I put the Cotto bout up there on the list of Pac's greatest wins.
And to add, they were not only both blindingly fast, they were also both solid-punchers.
Which is why my jaw really dropped when Pac "tested" Cotto's power by just standing there in front of him in a high guard, then simply shrugging all of Cotto's best punches off -- that I bet greatly f*cked up Cotto's composure.

I hope Khan develops Pac's heart and "trainability" but his last performance were showing improvements in both, so yeah, time will tell.

Khan is just getting started, but he has all the tools to do well, he can grow a lot. Personally I think he will hold belts in 140/147 and 154 during his carreer but he will get knocked out a few times when he goes up and face pressure fighters and hard punchers.
Maybe he will never reach atg or hof status or he will do really well.
    We shall see.

Good post, I agree it was fought on a diffrent level, but i believe it because these guys are still relatively green as far as big figts are concern, as you know boxing is something that takes a lot of time to master. So the better opposition they fight, the level of there boxing knowledge, and reaction time gets better.

Well lets not forget that only a few years ago people on here were saying that Pac would lose to Malignaggi and that Ricky ****ing Hatton would walk straight through him.

I think if anything Manny's success proves that you can never predict the future of any fighter.

Haha its really crazy if you think about it, it would be like a light welter capturing his 8th world title at heavyweight.

I don't wanna be an arrogant *****, but those people don't know ****. Or at the very least, they don't see boxing the way I do. I've been telling everyone that Pac was underrated since 2004.

I'd agree in saying he has a long way to go, but we can't be sure. I coincidentally watched the first half of Cotto Pacquiao two days ago as well, and I thought the same thing; the speed and level of adaptation moment to moment was amazing. Cotto did better than I remembered actually, and the heights of performance were certainly impressive for anyone with an eye for technique. Pacquiao would swivel around and tag Cotto with two or three consecutive shots, then eat a bomb counter left hook as Cotto seized the opportunity of an opening. Great stuff.

Seeing as Khan is only 24 years old, I think he can go far, but only time will tell. He's still more flawed than I thought he would be but he's a force to be reckoned with now and will only get better.
