I don't think ability level always directly equates to success and status within the sport. Okay, Khan will never be as good as Pac, or achieve as much (few, if any, will) but I certainly can see a scenario where Khan cleans up 140, moves up and beats a slightly aged and faded Mayweather and becomes one of the sports absolute elite fighters. Khan has raw attitubes and he will improve, he already has done by a lot, will continue to do so. There is obviously a limit to how much he will improve. But I genuinely don't think any of us can envisage where that limit is right about now.
I am a Pac fan since the "Blow by blow" shows and man I never remotely imagined that Pac would lace up against ODLH and heck, fight a bout at SWW and then be a monster in both JWW and WW! :shock: I mean... Who f*cking did?!
yea that was a great fight. Although Cotto had his moments, the only round he won on my card was the first. Pac really outclassed a formidable foe, that talk of Cotto being damaged is bull
I get what you're saying, but I don't think we can make any conclusions just yet, all fighters develop differently... some before others. Me personally, I see something very special in Khan. I like that the fact that (so far) he's willing to fight the best in his division, and prove himself. Plus he trains his ass off, his conditioning is amazing. His mix of speed and power is also something special, if he can work on his footwork and defence then he's going to be a really solid fighter. Do I think he'll reach Pac's level?... no, probably not... but I think he'll at least be in the P4P top 3 come 2013 if he continues training hard and working with Roach.
Agree with post, not sure what all this hype job is on Khan. It will be a long time before and if ever reaching Pac's status, highly doubt it. PAC might as well fight the klitschkos' and i aint kidding.
He has long, long way to go physicall and mentally BUT hoe does have a lot of time to do it in and he does have great people surrounding him. I honestly don't think he'll get right to the top of the p4p list, maybe around 5 at most (I just see so many inherent flaws that I think will be really exploited at the very elite level). He's got the size and possible frame (along with his skills) to win titles at 140, 147, and 154. I see him getting stopped a few more times in his career though.
It's a guess based on the fact that I feel his biggest weakness is his lack of experience, and that time spent fighting at the level he is at will improve this weakness.
Exactly. A few more fights like that and the Barrera-Maidana stretch may very well be looked back upon as his prime. Fights like that shorten careers.
Comparing a green Khan who’s only just had his 2nd fight in America at the tender age of 24, to a an ATG in Pacquiao who’s wiped out a sea of elite fighters during his time....is a bit too much. The Pacquiaos and the Mayweathers are cut from a different cloth all together, so it’s a bit unfair to compare Khan to them.
donaire and khan can possibly jump weight over time and be successful at the upper weights, but the most they can possibly go is up to 6th weight class for donaire (lightweight) and 5th weight class for khan (middleweight).
Very good remarks. I remember watching the event in Vegas with my gf. After and a more or less acceptable undercard (Chavez Jr., Foreman-Santos) my gf (who is not a boxing fan at all) said after the first round of Pac-Cotto: "Even if these two do not throw a single punch, this is way more entertaining than the whole undercard". That's why I think May-Pac would be in this sense hell of a fight.
