I hate when people say things like "Pac ducked Guzman", "Mayweather ducked Margarito", "Hopkins ducked Dawson", and **** like that.

If I'm the BIGGER name, then OF COURSE you will want to fight me. But that does not mean that I want to fight YOU.

A REAL DUCK is if, for example, Wlad offers a fight to Povetkin, but Povetkin turns it down. That's a duck. You got a chance to beat a guy who is ahead of you, you don't turn it down. You get a chance to beat a guy who is behind you, it's not a duck if you turn it down and go for something else.

So according to you, Khan can duck Bradley

    Or Calzaghe can duck Froch

    Or Tyson can duck Holyfield

    Or Wlad can duck Chisora:patsch

    Or Marquez can duck Soto

To me a "duck" is when a fighter chooses a weaker opponent rather than facing the best or better opponent.

i like what tyson said in an interview with sky tv,

he said just because someone doesnt want to fight some one else at a certain moment in time,it doesnt mean he doesnt want to fight them in the future, there just being sensible and admitting that their not ready for them yet.

with povetkin atlas didnt think he was ready to let povetkin face the klitschkos.why rush and fail too soon.

why put yourself in early to face klitschko if your not ready?,i think arreola went in to soon vs vitali,he should have lost more weight and improved more before going for a title shot.

if a champion chooses to fight such an unready, green fighter, like wlad did in chisora, thats just petty, thats low, picking a guy tht has not enough experience and not proven himself not even vs one good world level opponent who wasnt past it.

if he hadnt of get "injured" o whatever,he could have ruined chisora and his career.

I disagree. A duck is when you refuse to fight tough opposition. Avoiding the toughest and fighting less talent, that's a duck IMO.

I couldn't disagree more. You don't have to be the smaller name to be considered a "duck."

Oh you are right. I get it now JMM isnt as popular as Mark Wahlberg. Pac should fight Wahlberg and we should stop saying he is ducking since Wahlberg is a bigger star. Hmm it makes perfect sense....

People exaggerate this "duck" talk. Very few fighters actually duck others. In the majority of cases, it just doesn't make sense, either because the fighter knows they aren't read or the money isn't right or the fight can be bigger at a later stage. Why rush things all the time?

I think it's stupid fans hate on a fighter for admitting he's not ready. It's ridiculous. We can't expect these fighters to make absolutely stupid decisions just because we want to see the best fight the best. The fighters know what position they are in and we should accept that.

I think that's different. Like if someone offered young Saul Alvarez to fight Miguel Cotto right now, but he declined, I wouldn't consider it a duck just yet.

The term duck gets thrown around way too often on boxing forums and other places where boxing fans like to have thier say. Things are alot more complicated with negotiations and all that ****.

But it does happen and can be found at any level of the sport. People say Vlads ducking Chisora, please? Serious? Mayweather ducking Pacman? Yeah i reckon.

Yeah, I wouldn't either but I know I'd log on ESB and see a bunch of morons saying "ALVAREZ IS A *****" or "SAUL 'COWARD-O' ALVAREZ". Realistically, it's going to be a while before Alvarez should think about a fight like that and if it was offered now, he would be sensible to turn it down.
