Too many forms of DUCK out there. In pac's case I would say they have went around certain styles Defensive (counter punchers) as well as fighters who win by the same means as pac which is with overwhelming speed.

In the case of guzman who was on top of his game at 130 beating Barrios and Soto in sturn fashion, A fight between them two was the most interesting because they both win by the same means. Pac more offensive (tenatious) while guzman more of a counter puncher who throws combinations off the counter, who can also be offensive if he wants. Guzman had a great chin at that weight also and could match Pac's speed. Roach in an interview was asked about fighting Guzman and simply says there is no reason to fight Guzman. He was telling the truth in a Biz sense because having two guys like that is very unpredictable for both fighters because neither has had to fight an opponent of equal handspeed. Same is the case with berto now though I think Guzman at 130 was the better fighter than the current berto though and berto's speed is just barely under Pac's while I feel Guzman's speed at 130 matched pac.

I wouldn't exactly say it was bigger, more significant...but not bigger, outside of the UK anyway. Hatton facing and stopping Castillo (shot or not) got him his bout with Mayweather.

A duck is more like when Pac picked up a title at LW against David Diaz instead of figting the best fighter at LW for the true championship.

It's not that he was scared of the champ, or that he couldn't beat the champ, but Pac just chose the easiest route for an ABC belt. Paper champ.

 

I think it is extremely rare for a fighter to be scared of another fighter. These guys have been fighting their whole lives.

Now Fight teams and promoters, I don't know about. At some point they all seem very calculated to make certain match ups because that's their job, MATCH MAKING. In the early years it's about a fighters progression. Once a fighter makes it to the top or to their potential, it's all about business. Make the match that sells and has the best possible chances at winning, when choosing your opponents stylistically. In deep divisions such as 140, this is harder to do because everyone is very good towards the top. So even though the match making is there it's about fighting the top guys that fit what you are doing stylistically and hoping another top fighter beats the guy with the style that give one's fighter problems.
