The guy is unlucky and has some questionalbe losses on his record but to the Eye, people know he's a tough, versitile, smart guy to deal with and the risk far out ways the reward. The fight with mosley didn't mean anything as soon as callazo broke his Left hand. It might as well been a no contest as far as I'm concerned. He's somewhat of a gate keeper who's never really got his ass kicked and been on the bad side of luck. I say put mike jones in there with him next. I don't believe in Mike Jones even though I think he will get a belt off of attributes alone.
Why does everyone call it a robbery when said fighter who was supposedly robbed didn't dominate by far and the fight was so close, he left it in the hands of the judges and he lost, get over it.
The bout was competitive, but in no way did Luis school Hatton. That's mere hyperbole. Nevertheless, I do think that Collaz is a skilled fighter.
Dude runs 10 miles a day and jump ropes for hours...its crazy. His trainer in SC is close to my trainer in GA.
Last I heard (a couple of months ago) he was supposed to get a shot at 154 lb champ Sergei Dzindiruk or whatever the **** his name is is. The fight was lined up, but he wanted to take a tune up fight before that. I haven't heard anything about it since.
Just goes to show the incredible shape these guys have to be in to go through a tough fight. You would think that after being able to run 10 miles you wouldnt get tired after 10 rounds which is when fighters usually show fatigue.
Thanks for clearing up the Hatton v Castillo situation... I wasn't sure if that was from a punch or not.
I'm a big Collazo fan. I thought he lost to Hatton but could have (should have?) been given the nod against Berto. I think it should also be pointed out that Collazo broke his hand against Mosley in the opening rounds, and actually had one the first round. I'm not saying that it changes anything, but you have to think he's at least more competitive. I remember being really frustrated at that fight because it was clear he hurt his hand and didn't throw it much the rest of the bout. If someone mentioned this already, my bad.
Word. That was the first time I ever trained with a big name pro. His level of fitness is insane. I have problems running 4 miles this guy does 10.....crazy.
He lost to Berto more clearly than Hatton, furthermore Mosley Clearly won the first round, it was the 2nd which Collazo won which is the ONLY round he won, decent fighter but he hasn't done enough.
