We'll see Khan is still very young and has yet to reach his physical peak, so it's not fair to compare Khan today with today's Pac. Both men have been KTFO early in their careers, but these things just happen. While Manny is 2 or 3 fights away from retirement, Khan has still a long way to go and can stil improve on a lot!!
Khan is a poor man's DLH to me. Tall, good speed and jab... Olympic pedigre. But he doesn't have the chin Oscar had. I see Khan, like DLH falling short when he fights elite guys like Bradley.
I agree with this. Don't expect Khan to fight like this again anytime soon... he's going to be much more defensively minded from now on I think. I hope he improves his lateral movement and footwork as well... it's the one thing that stands out right now in an otherwise solid Boxer-Puncher.
I think Khan has potential but some of those reactions are innate. For all the talk of Pac being a 1-D slugger before he met Roach, you look at him go in his early career and although he makes mistakes he also has a very keen eye for openings, a great sense of timing, good leverage on his shots, and good anticipation. Remember when Ledwaba threw a jab at Pac and Pac caught it and countered with the left down the pipe. That's not something Roach taught him. There a certain sharpness about Pac that has always been there and that I don't see in a guy like Khan, at least not as much That's why I say that when one day Khan reaches his prime, I can see him reaching Cotto's level, but I'll be really surprised if he reaches Pac's level or even the level of guys like JMM, Barrera, Mosley
I think you're probably right, but don't forget Pacquiao is one in a generation. It would be unfair to Khan to expect him to achieve that kind of level, and unfair to criticise him if he doesn't. Khan is still a very young fighter who has a huge amount of flaws. Pacquiao matured into the fighter he is today. Khan will mature to a higher level, but I wouldn't bet on anyone equalling or coming close to Pacquiao any time soon. If Khan to get to Cotto's level (2-weight champion, some big wins against decent names) then he will have had a very successful career. At the moment Khan is all talent (ie speed), but he has a long way to go in the skills department.
Of course hes not going to reach Pac's status, achievements, ect. Pac is a bone fide ATG fighter and a once in an era type rarity. Thats a pretty high standard to hold Khan to. Khan will have a very succesful and worthy career, even if he doesnt wind up half of what Pac was.
Not really, youre saying that a great fight is made great also by the level of operations within the ring no? And you would be right to a degree, imo.
Well give him time to get close to his prime (physical, mental, ability) first eh? Thats a few years away yet.
Good point and I hope you're right. I really gained a lot of admiration for Khan due to this (showing such heart) I dont think I will ever be a fan of his, but I def can see why he has fans. Some of the best fans in the sport too, IMO. Theyve had to put up with a lot of crap
A win thread... Havent read a thread like this in a long time. Most treads these days are about *******s and *****s.
Pacquiao is good...what more do you want me to say, PHILLA? What more do you want anyone to say? Khan is good, but he'll never be that good. That's just the way it is, and it didn't take a marvel of modern science to come to this conclusion. Serious question, how are you going to spend your time once Manny bows out of the fight game? ...As I say, serious question.
uhh the main point of this thread is not to say Pacquiao is good. It's to say that elite fighters of the sport operate on a different level of speed (I'm not talking handspeed) and that Khan is so far behind that I have doubts he will ever reach that level. This thread is about Khan, not Pac. Alot of people got the point right off the bat, but some of you who think I only watch Pac fights, which is completely wrong, are misunderstanding the point. While I think that with some luck in his absolute prime Khan might reach the type of ability where he can operate on the level of Cotto, I doubt he will ever attain the plateau where guys like Pacquiao and Mayweather operate and also guys like Marquez, Barrera, Morales, Mosley and I don't see why this comparison is so out of line when they are already talking of matching up Khan with PBF within 18 months, so comparing Khan to the elite of the sport is valid.
