Khan has only faced 2 fights vs pressure fighters one at domestic level Gomez and one now with Maidana.

I agree Khan at times showed mistakes with footwork and his defence, but you got to give credit to Maidana he kept coming kept the pressure on Khan for most of the fight. Maidana is one of them type of fighters who don’t let you breathe or time to think and don’t think anyone at 140 could just box him for 12 rounds without Maidana landing bombs, but Khan eat them and beat Maidana over 12 hard rounds.

Watch Khan when he fights these boxers in Bradley, Alexander he will show you his boxing skills. He will use his speed to land before they can even react, working off his great jab and having his feet planted with better balance to his shots, ask Paulie if Khan can box, Khan put on a boxing masterclass in New York with his iron jab.

Khan will learn a lot from his fight with Maidana, for next time facing a pressure fighter/puncher but right now I don’t see anymore pure hunters at 140 or 147 who fight like Maidana.

Khan has a top amateur background and also winning a Olympic Silver medal at the age of 17yrs, and remember Khan only turned 24yrs last week so he will no doubt keep improving under Roach.

He needs someone to teach him inside fighting and defense. Because my growing suspicion is that Roach cannot.

Swarm, why do you think roach can't teach those skills? I remember watching some highlights of roach as a prizefighter, and he was doing a lot of work on the inside. He also got his training background from Eddie Futch, the man who trained the great heavyweight swarmer Smokin' Joe.:think

The truth is that Khan just doesn't have that killer instinct in him. The guy just can't stand his ground and make it a fight if he has too. He has speed so all he does is throw his punches and run.

Khan is an outside fighter and that's what i feel they keep focusing on, i dont think Khan will ever be any good on the inside, but Roach should at least give him some basics for inside.

What they have been working on is fighting in the pocket at times, but that still needs more work. Khan needs to duck under more shots, he did it a few times vs Maidana but needs to do that more so it sets him up for counters like Pacman.

You have to be careful when you have the worst chin in the sport.

I remember him shoulder rolling when his back was against the ropes once or twice during the fight.

Real talk swarmer and leon, I don't know if khan is able to do so. I think he can improve his defensive discipline though but I don't think he has the physical make up to beat an infighter at his own game. Khan seems to stiff and upright. If he ever does inprove his inside game then look out everyone. I think he has the same problem as Alexander in which he keeps his head there in the same place when swinging his combinations. It can be fixed IMO. This is a double edge sword IMO, because I think his vulnerability makes him more exciting, even though he better not have that vulnerability for long at this level of comp.

I think he needs to step out of the technical box and see where his potential can take him. Once he can become defensive while he's being offensive he will touch greatness.

You forgot about the fighters who can box using skills and pressure these will give khan alot of problems, especially if they get inside at the right distance, e.g maidana smothered his own work alot of other top fighters would not do that and it wouldnt bode well for khan.

True...that's why he will never reach that top level. If you look at fighter like, Rios, Ortiz, Maidana, and others, they will stand and trade if they have too. Not that they are better than Khan but they possess that toughness in them.

Say roach would no longer be able to train Amir, who would you like to see him go with?

Maybe if Amir improves his ring IQ and defense, he can get his Floyd on and be good enough that he doesn't ever have to trade.

Khan is tough just not in the sense where he should have bravado because his chin still isnt what most people think it is.
