Who other than Mexico believe's Chavez was ahead of F. Randall in the '94 rematch?

Does anyone remember the highly hyped return of J.C. Chavez after he blew his title to Frankie Randall in there initial encounter of Jan. 1994? I sure as hell do... I recall Magic Johnson and Paul Rodriguez being ringside for the 1994 rematch with just about all in favor of Chavez to regain his crown... Well, what actually happened in that rematch boggled my mind...

I saw Frankie Randall looking slick and savvy in handing out another boxing lesson to the slower Chavez, only to get screwed in the end from some stupid headbutt issue that resulted in the crooks / judges going to the cards and awarding Chavez a tech. win and his WBC title back... BEDLAM in VEGAS!

Who else feels Randall was shafted in the rematch of 1994?:huh

I PPV'd the 2004 rubber match from Mexico where both guys were aged and faded, yet they put on a good show for 10 rds... Okay, yes, Chavez won there fair and square... But, that's besides the point of this thread...

Me for sure. Chavez had promised a KO of Randall in the rematch, and the exact opposite happened. Randall was practically making him look worse than Whitaker did. The way things were going, Frankie may have even stopped him eventually.
Then came that headbutt. Chavez couldn't continue, but still was given the nod. That never sat well with me, because he wasn't winning the fight at all.

Oh yeah he didn't deserve the win. Judges loved JCC- close fights with Laporte and Lockridge meant te judges had a JCC winning a blowout, Despite being dropped and getting two points deducted one judge had him beating Randall the first time, One judge had him beating Meldrick Taylor (LOL) and apparently the draw with Gonzalez was controversial. Can anyone clarify this as I have never seen the Gonzalez fight.

 

Anyone? No one seen his draw with Gonzalez? On paper thats a great result for a old Chavez as Gonzalez was about as pure a boxer you could find.

 

I thought Gonzalez shaded it. Nothing more. The fight was closer than the others and the biggest problem was Gonzalez not pressing on the gaspedal or trying to be an opportunist in there.

Really? I believe he bossed the Laporte and Lockridge fights. He got a lucky nod in the Randall 2 fight but thats about it. From a guy with around 110 fights I feel its a bit unfair to say that he had many gifts. What other fights would you say he had gifts in?

 

Plus the Whitaker fight. Knew I missed something lol just didn't think it was the most important fight of the Mexicans career duh

 

That rematch should have been a tko victory for Randall!!!

 

I have "Chavez-Gonzo" from circa--'98 on file.... The draw was okay with me... I'd need to review it to be more precise in 2010, but I recall it was competitive...

Yeh as i recall it looked another bad day at the office for JCC, i don't know if it was all the wear & tear & father time starting to kick in but i remember thinking he's starting to look a bit pudgy, a tad thicker, maybe training & weight control were'nt as much a priority in JCC's life.

It seemed a sure fire lock that he was going to hit the 100 not out as all the hype had that up in lights & along came fun time frankie:bbb:smoke

 

Not really much to do with Chavez as much as with Whitaker. For some odd reason Whitaker was judge unfriendly. as also the way Pea was jobbed against Ramirez in thier first fight...
But as to your thread. Randall & Taylor has opportunities to get revenge & failed.
