I just wanted to know who you think has a better legacy?
Floyd is still active, unbeaten and one of the greatest fighters of this generation, but doesn't get enough respect in this forum.
Tyson was the most exciting heavyweight ever, and the greatest story in boxing history, but his life outside the ring and disgraceful people around him, never allowed him to live up to his full potential, but he is loved (and rightly so) in this forum...

So having that in my mind I would like to know generally, who everyone regards better in terms of their legacy...i'd like to read your opinions.

Mike Tyson is a legend, always was, always will be.

Floyd Mayweather will be in the HoF, but he will never be idolized like Tyson.

I think everyone respects Floyds boxing skills but people don't respect him as he acts like a douche, ducks fighters and calls himself the greatest when he hasn't beaten anyone noteworthy in the past 8 years. Thats why people don't respect him, with his skill he could have more than likely beaten guys like Cotto, Marg etc.

Depends on the legacy. Tyson is a legend and has well and truly left his mark on the sport. Scariest boxer ive ever known. Mayweather has proven hes one of the most talented and technically best boxers and both have achieved plenty.

Id say Tyson though Floyds has been far from average.

    Tyson easily.

    Floyd does rate higher though.

Tyson...a good friend of mine made the comment that Tyson made people care about the heavyweights again in the '80s.......can't think of too many people he avoided either.

Floyd has the more accomplished resume, by far. So his legacy among boxing purists will definitely be higher than Tyson's. Mike Tyson is the better known and more popular fighter, because of the media and his "baddest man on the planet" aura/mystique.. not because of his great resume.. Tyson ruled in the late 80's when the heavyweight division was weak, right before heavyweight boxing started to boom again in the 90's. And he lost all his big fights.. his two best wins were vs a past prime Larry Holmes and a light-heavyweight in Michael Spinks.

I'd say Tyson. Tyson has endeared himself to the public more with his exciting style.

Both had problems outside the ring but people knew Tyson had a screwed up childhood. Floyd acts like a total douche but recently is becoming a loser in reality with his recent acts. All in all Tyson is a bigger criminal. But coming from the upbringing he had, it was not a shock to people. Floyd born to a boxing family, and acting out like the way he does, turns off more people. People just don't like frauds.

Easily Tyson in legacy. People still talk about him and idolise him ALL OVER THE WORLD.

How many Eastern European boxers have Tyson as their inspiration for example? Chagaev, Abraham, Aydin, Darchinyan etc etc.

All the GOAT candidates have lost fights.

People despise Mayweather for the single reason that he is obsessed with the illusion that retiring unbeaten will make him a legend. It doesn't happen. For reference, see Joe Calzaghe. 15 years from now, someone will bring up Joe in a conversation and no one will know who he is.

Why does Tyson get ranked? For wins over regional-grade professionals like Tucker, Tillman, Tubbs, and Tillis? Tyson would not fare well in this era. He would simply be outmatched by today's Euro-level superstars.
