very interesting special...God damn Tyson knew his boxing. It's nice to see a young, respectful mike sharing his incredible knowledge of boxing and breaking down fights and fighters based on his teachings from Cus

Ali's thoughts on Dempsey were atrocious!

Yeah, Ali was far from the scholar of boxing that Tyson is. But I think Ali did well to call it as he saw it, but that seems to rile some people. I think he wasn't really fair on Louis (probably because Joe is the one who can challenge him for the GOAT honour), but otherwise he was pretty spot on.

If he was a scholar like Tyson he could have put his judgements on fighters in better context, but instead he held everyone to the standard of modern boxing.

damn ali, don't hold back, tell us what you really think:lol:

seriously, tyson's analysis (though obviously coloured by d'amato) is thorough, contextual and insightful. he understands and appreciates fighters in their era and seems to pull out traits that would have crossed generations

Yeah, especially since Dempsey was still alive at the time...what gross disrespect..could you imagine Floyd Patterson insulting a living exchamp like that? You either have class or you don't.

Great special...and yes, Tyson sure knows boxing.

  10. Jack Dempsey was a good fighter but from Alis point of view i can see where hes coming from and the fact is Jack Dempsey wouldnt stand a chance against Ali

Ali for years didn't get any respect from the old timers who constantly ranked Dempsey,Marciano,Louis etc as greater fighters than him.

Ali was a proud man and didn't see anyone as greater than him and spoke accordingly.

I'm sure Jack Dempsey if he ever heard about it couldn't have cared less anyway. He knew what he was capable of.
