Body Punching- Is it to Overlooked?

    I think also Kessler said it was to do with Froch's body being as easier target then the head which leans away from shots. He leaves body unprotected as we saw...

    Great points about Hatton, he got a lot of stick for being a 'wrestler' or 'dirty fighter' because if he was stifled either by his opponent or not working his way in and rushing his shots it looked ugly. But Hattons body shots were nevertheless viscious. Id still go for Cotto albeit the monster at 140 where he seemed to use it more, combines good technique with ferocity

    Its a good point brought up here, even 1 of if the best fighter in history Sugar Ray Robinson was a great body puncher but because of his vast skill set it gets ignored at times. Same with Mayweahter, a lot more focus on his hand speed and defensive abilties than his impressive inside work

    target practice. If a fighter gets time to pick them and openings are there then a guy can look impressive.

    I always wanted to see Vitali tested this way. He leans back and drops his hands to the body but it doesn't look a solid defence. shame there is **** all out there that can test him at the minute.

    That's a good shout actually. I remember him doing that a lot to Arreola. He never worked the body. You'd think a man of that age you'd lap up the chance to work his body......heavyweight fighters ring IQ these days is beyond a joke.

    I'm not sure its that mate. The Klits are pretty good at what they do and the current mob of contenders arn't good enough to deal with it. I don't think ring IQ comes into it.

    Arreola's footwork let him down. He couldn't get close enough to get the bodyshots off easily and when he did he inevitably had a 2 or 3 punch combo distorting his vision.

    I agree with you Gaz but when you can't get to the head they don't really even attempt to land on arms and body at times. I know it's easier said then done. But LHL made a good point if the heads not there to be hit and body's not being protected why not attack it?..it's part to do there not good enough physical and technically as well as mentally. They don't think like world class fighters should do IMO.

    To land on the body they have to get that bit closer and their hands are that bit lower. Then its the jab, jab, jab, right cross coming back at them, if those miss they just get an arm on the back/ shoulder to push them down.

    I don't think these guys are stupid, they know what they need to do. They just can't implement it.

    True, i was more meaning when they do get close to Vitali and do get him out of that methodical stance and get him ruffled a bit. They don't press the issue enough.

    I must admit...it looks alot easier to beat the Klits when your sat at home watching it :lol:.

    Yep its really easy to beat these Klits on your armchair. It must be seriously difficult to actually get inside on them and work. Obviously. But the lack of skill around does not help.
